A MUSICAL STATUE

We had a very well liked and competent band teacher here for many years. When he came to this area he directed the band program in one of the nearby towns. The the local college started  music program and he began teaching at the college. He started symphonic winds where locals played with the students. When I volunteered for front of house in the College Arts center I never missed a symphonic winds concert.

Very unfortunately he was killed in a motor cycle accident when he ran into a car.

There was a baton in his right hand but vandals kept on steali
ng it.

  1. Most of us won't be remembered by many and not for very long either.

    1. My sister passed away 72 years ago in 1953. There are fewer and fewer people who remember her.

  2. Nice tribute with the statue. My high school band director was worth a statue, but it's in all of his students' hearts. Linda in Kansas

  7. I was curious who the guy was. Here’s a little bit from Mr Google for those others who may be curious: “The late Keith Mann, an internationally acclaimed music director, is shown here in the moment just before a concert. His hands are raised. A hush is falling over the audience. During Mann's 40-year career he conducted the Red Deer Royals Marching Show Band and Red Deer College Symphonic Winds.” PS Hi Ellen! 😊

    1. He had talent and energy to burn. I didn't use his name as I didn't have permission even though he was a very public person.

  10. He looks a bit like all the teachers I liked the best.
A pity he died before we would have liked.

  11. Disappointing that people can't simply leave things be. AC is right. Memories of me will not last much after my last breath...unless of course the cats make a statue.

  12. That's so sad that he died like that. It's great a statue was built for him. But goodness! They steal his baton. Why?

You attended all of his music classes dear Red and you will never forget him 🥹
This is nice gesture that authorities made his statue to give him tribute ☺️
My elder brother died when I was six or seven hardly.if my mom would have not cried for him throughout her life specially front of us we would’ve been able to remember him so clearly 🙏
