- In the past ten days the micro manager and I have caught one of he most miserable head colds we've ever had. I've been retired for 28 years and have rarely had a head cold. We have no idea where we picked it up. We think it may have been in the hospital that the micro Manager had her cataract surgery,
- But that isn't what this post is about. Yesterday afternoon the Micro Manager had a coughing spell that was alarming. We decided to go to the emergency rather than wait until when she got sicker.
- We got to emergency about 6:30. PM
- We had been told that there was a wait of about 3 and a half hours. At 10 I asked how long we still had to wait. Well there were four people ahead of us. How long would that take? Well it took until one AM for us to get in a room. It took another hour to see a doctor
- So we got out of the treatment area about 2 AM. We got home just before 3 AM and he did not prescribe anything for us to do.

A hard experience in so many ways, Red. I hope you both feel better soon. A pharmacist might be able to recommend a cough medication, which would depend on if it's a dry cough or a productive (phlegmy) cough. But at least you now know that the Micro Manager has been looked at and can continue to recuperate at home. Get some rest after that long night!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your long wait at the ER. I still remember my late mom and I making visits to the ER and it taking so long. It was usually very full there though. I heard one doctor tell me to go home as soon as possible after surgery because the hospital is the worst place for germs.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! That's horrid. Hope they tested for various bad things like covid, Flu A and B, and RSV. Prayers that you get both get better. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteKay of Musings: Oh my gosh! That is a horrible wait. I guess I won’t complain about our military ER waits. I hope you’re both doing OK and that you’re going to get some relief.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad, such a long wait and not to be given any real treatment.
ReplyDeleteI hope your wife feels better soon. Take care, enjoy your day!
I think it has been 7 or so years since I last stepped foot in an emergency room for my grandfather. I would be quite okay with never having to do so again.
ReplyDeleteWhat an episode. It seems to me that your experience at the ER was mishandled. A brief assessment of the MM’s condition at arrival would have confirmed a serious cold and release to go home with instructions on best procedures for recovery. Illness and long waits can be especially hard on older couples.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're suffering. You would hope that someone might tell you as soon as possible that there was no treatment, so that you could at least have gone home to the comfort of your own surroundings. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's shameful what the government has done to our health care system. I'm sorry your two had to wait so long, only to be told, it's a virus, you'll get over it.
ReplyDeleteOh my, that's awful, Red. I had a bad cough with the virus I had in the beginning of the year. Steamy showers, humidifier in my bedroom, and lots of cough drops helped with the awful cough. Hot tea or hot soup was soothing too. I did get medication from my doctor but the symptoms lasted for a month anyway. Hope your wife and you feel much better soon.
ReplyDeleteThat's awful, but not unusual, unfortunately. Medical staffs everywhere are understaffed, overworked and underpaid. It will probably get worse. Meanwhile, I hope you two are getting better.
ReplyDeleteThat is horrible, such a long wait and then no help of any kind. Jen and Andy had what they described the had cold from you know where. Jen was sick about a week. Far Guy and I got the sniffles and were real tired for a few days...apparently we had that virus before in our lives.
ReplyDeleteUgh! I'm so sorry you had to wait so long to be told nothing very helpful. But it's good you went, just in case.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty good time compared to what we have been through not too long ago and a friend very recently.
ReplyDeleteI am taking some physio in the hospital, and we are all masking down there though not necessarily in the hospital in general.
That is awful! I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteJoe's had this 100-cough. You can only treat symptoms unless it gets infected. I've nagged him to take meds and it has worked.
Awwww...sad. I wish you a rapid recovery 🙏 ❤️
