I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MY IMAGE

Now for an 80 year old guy , I'm not too concerned about the image I have. I'm comfortable in my own skin.

I admit that I'm a little rumply. Sometimes it may be borderline unkempt. (My opinion) But when it comes time to present an acceptable look I can get my act together. If I'm around the yard , anything goes. If I have to go out well be decent.

So those shorts and belt just don't cut it compared to my neatly attired brother.

This isn't too bad for being at the barbecue for 200 gr sevens

...and I was pretty neat looking after textbooks for my department.

So what am I worried about now? My new neighbors shovel my walks before I can get out there. I live on a corner so there's lots to shovel. I thank them and say that we are both able to shovel. Well, they say we're out here so we might as well do it. I have another neighbor who will also shovel when I'm not looking.

What is this? I like it and appreciate it. But am I presenting the image of an old man who needs help shoveling?  Have I fallen down in the snow lately?

None of these is the case. I just have very nice neighbors. Oh yes I do get a chance to shovel their walks sometimes!  It's fun.

  3. It is good to have nice neighbours who are there for you if you need them. And even when you don't need them!

  4. I am 76, Red, and still do my own shovelling. Sometimes a fellow two doors down will do the sidewalk with his blower, but not always. As to how I look, it is not a great concern of mine, colours may not coordinate and that kind of stuff. Warmth and comfort take priority over style. My wife lets me know, very gently i might add, if I go over the top!

  5. Hello, You look great. It is nice to have great neighbors. Our neighbor helps plow our driveway, he uses his tractor and is done in minutes. It is such a big help. I am thankful for great neighbors. Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend ahead!

  6. I need neighbours like yours. Our neighbor, two doors down in our townhouses, blows the next door neighbour's snow. That is very nice of him, but when he's doing the sidewalk, he stops at the exact dividing line between our two houses when it would only be another few feet and two minutes to do ours too.

  7. I'm sure they're just trying to be helpful -- but it's great that you sometimes get a chance to do the same for them!

  8. Hi Red, You look fine and you are a lucky man too with those kind neighbors. Nice neighbors can make a lot of difference. I like your idea of returning the favor by getting out there and doing their walks first.

  11. One of the biggest joys of retirement for me is wearing just what I want to. No more “business casual” or “dress up to meet the parents” for us! You have lovely neighbors.

  12. Yes - in my eighties I have this 'problem' too. Folk offer to help me across the road, carry my bag, help me up steps. The thing is - they are being kind so I refuse but I try to do it gracefully if I can.
