Congratulations to Darlin at: My Life for a Year.

A blog that I follow is "My Life for a Year" by Darlin. Darlin does a short post most days on what goes on in her life. Today  the topic was walking the dog and whether you walked the dog or the dog walked you. She has excellent photos and can tell things in a positive very perky way.

Darlin does give out her age but I can't remember what she said. She's still on the best side of the big 5 0. This year she finished an arts degree at the University of Calgary. Most of it was done on line.  Darlin was excited to go to the convocation and celebrate with her adult children or maybe it was her adult children celebrating with her. Finishing a degree as an adult is a challenge. You've been out of school for a long time. Sometimes your school experience wasn't positive.

Darlin was so pumped about her success that she registered in a masters program.

So this is my opportunity to tell you about a neat blog.

Now several weeks after the convocation the Metis had their own ceremony for Metis graduates from the University of Calgary. So it's nice to see a special cultural group celebrate the success of their members.

Darlin was overwhelmed when she was given an award for the student overcoming great difficulties. So congratulations to Darlin. After all that she still has a huge smile on her face.

So go over to Darlin's blog and look at the colorful symbolic celebration. While you're there look around at other posts. I'm sure you'll find something you like.

  2. Its never too late to become educated - after all dear Red, isn't life one great big learning process. I think its wonderful when people go to school, community college, college, or study various programs to school themselves. What drive and ambition come from wanting to learn - how great is that. It thrills me when I hear of people, whoever they are or however olde they are updating their education. My best congratulations to your friend Darlin and I wish her the very best in her "Masters Program". I had a dear friend that wanted to be a Minister since she was young. After her 3 boys went off to college, she went to college and pursued her long dream and YES, she has been a Minister "here aboot" for approx 12 years now. I must now go check out your friend. Have a wonderful day "Sir Red" - I have knighted you from my small town, wear your title well :) Cheers, Lilly

    1. Thank you Saucy and hats off to your friend for doing what she has done to follow her dreams and passions in life. It's not easy by no means to return to the classrooms, but it's sure worth it!

"Sir Red" I like that! :-)

  6. Red I thank you for your kind words and am honored that you would post a blog about me. Hiy Hiy (Thank you). I'll clarify a few wee things for you, not that age is anything more than a number (I keep telling myself that one day I'll 'grow up' ... lol) I turned 50 on May 26th this year.

My degree is in Social Work, I am extremely passionate in regards to helping others learn how to help themselves. My studies are clinically focused and I find the more I'm learning the less I know (the saying is so true!). My major focus while I study at the Masters level will be aimed toward learning how to incorporate spirituality (aka the vibrational experience) into the biopsychosocial models of therapy into healing practices. I find there is too little of a focus, if any, in this area and I believe the vibrational experience is necessary in healing. There's no feeling in the world like a natural high or feeling your heart dance!

The celebration was for all Native graduates; First Nations, Metis, as well as Inuit. The gala was hosted by The Native Centre and First Nations Student Association, and what an event this was to experience.

One last thing, I only did four courses for this degree online, the rest were class based and as you know practicum based as I was blessed to do my placement in Australia. This is where I got to meet Beverly, hi Beverly and thank you for your kind words as well!

So Red, thank you once again, your kind words have touched me deeply this fine morning. Have a wonderful blessed day!

    1. I would miss a few things . sorry about that. That makes it more challenging and interesting when you sit in a class with people who are in their twenties or younger. It's great that everybody was included in the celebration.
Now your area and topic. Western medicine does not consider this area at all. I believe there's much to learn about spirituality in healing. We have much of the historical info on spirituality but unfortunately the ones who really knew it are gone.
I fell a something when I walk through the woods or long grass.

    2. Red no worries, I am honored just the same, thank you! Being in class makes for some amazing conversation, we have all age groups, I wasn't the oldest and far from the youngest so there were different opinions which I learned through.

Western medicine in my opinion is about the diagnosis and how to treat a symptom, which if medicated further suppresses the feelings. There's nothing wrong with having a tough time in ones life, this is where our personal growth comes from. I say be there for someone, help through listening and offering support but enough medication already, allow emotions to come out and get to the core of the issue, for heaven's sake let it out or it's going to surface again down the road. Connecting with others, Mother Earth, music, dirt, mud, animals, plants... anything that makes your heart dance, do it.

Not all of the ways are gone Red, some have survived and have been passed down through the generations and I am blessed enough to have met some amazing teachers. Now it is my goal to learn more of the 'holistic' healing methodologies and incorporate them into practice... when the student is ready the teacher will appear, and trust me when I say bring it on, not only am I ready, I'm also super excited!

Cheers my friend, have a fantastic weekend. I have a wee guest coming to spend the evening with me tomorrow night and my heart is dancing just thinking of it! :-)

    3. Good to hear that some of the old ways are still alive. I didn't know that Hiy hiy was thank you in Cree. For lower Mackenzie people I think it's something like mose cho? I can't spell it. Maybe they are different situations of thank you.
