National Siblings Day

Since today is National Sibling's Day I will take the opportunity to wish my three great siblings a Happy Sibling's Day.

National sibling's Day is an idea promoted by Claudia Evart.  Claudia  lost her only two siblings at a very early age. National Sibling's day would be a good way to remember them. National sibling's day is recognized in 39 states. Claudia is trying to have it recognized as a national day.

My surviving siblings (brothers)  range in age from 60 to 75. We are quite different in looks and personalities. Our Mom was very short. Our Dad was very tall so our sizes range from short to tall. So we range in height from 5"6" to 6"4". I think. Things may have changed with age. Appearances are also very different. we would not pass as brothers as far as looks are concerned.

We range from very quiet to quiet!

We also had a sister who passed away at an early age in 1953. My youngest sibling was born after her death.

Since we were so far apart in age we were raised differently. Our parents became comfortable with parenting by the time the youngest appeared on the scene. I'm not saying the parenting was any better . It was just more laid back.

It's a good day to think about siblings and all the important things about them and how much they mean to our life.

So I hope that all  readers take a few minutes and think about their sibling's on this special day.

  3. Where are you in the birth order?
I am one of seven siblings, five surviving, three girls, two boys. I am the second child, one of the two quiet ones.

    1. Well, if it gets some people thinking about their family it's good.

  5. A national siblings day, I am not sure this has to be a day to celebrate. I think you can see and think about your siblings without a day anyway. I don't like mother's and father's day either, it is all to commercial to me with sending cards and giving presents. But the photo of all your siblings is very nice, indeed from long, to short as the genes demand.

    1. I agree that many of these days have become over commercialized. I believe there are cards for siblings so here we go again.

  7. I did not know about National Siblings Day, and see that you stated it was so in 39 States, so must be an American Day. Yours might range from very quiet, which I smiled at, to mine which would range from not so quiet to very loud. ha,ha You always surprise us with something new. Thanks a bunch, eh and have a wonderful day.

  9. I didn't know about Siblings Day, and now it's past for another year. I also love your description of your brothers' propensity for quiet. It's not something you can tell on your blog, since you have to "talk" on it. :-)

  10. I have one brother-he's older by about 15 months, and one sister-she's younger than me by 13 years. I think siblings are a good thing.

  13. I am the second youngest of seven siblings. My two eldest brothers died, one by drowning as a boy, the other by cancer. I get along well enough with my two brothers. My two sisters, on the other hand... well, those relationships are pretty much over, for my own emotional well being.

    1. I'm sorry about the sister relationships. We need everybody for our support.

    2. It took a good deal of therapy to learn a lot about them- and how toxic they were to my well being. I wasted a lot of years putting up with emotional abuse from them.

  14. Unfortunately, my only sibling is an older brother and he's very rich and doesn't associate with the family anymore. My mother hasn't spoken with him in twenty years and I haven't in fifteen years. His choice, not ours.

  15. I didn't really even know there was a sibling day until I started seeing sib pics on facebook. It's just and my sister now and we are about different as day and night, but she is my best friend. Have a great weekend!

  17. I wonder if a sibling day will one day be recognized here. I guess it would help some people to be reminded of the value of their siblings. I don't need reminding, my 10 siblings and I have great relationships with each other, although I must admit as we grow older I feel closer to some than to others.

  18. Are you in the picture? If so I don't recognize you. You all do look different but you all are nice looking men. I've lost both my brothers. Just my sister and I are left.

  21. Hi Red, This is a good idea to recognize siblings with a special day. I had not heard about it before. I have one sibling ... a sister who is much older. She is in assisted living now. Question: Do any of your brothers have blogs? If yes, would you give us a link? I would like to see if they write interesting stories like you do.

  22. Siblings Day? What a wonderful thing to celebrate. It's a sad thought for me that my granddaughter will have no siblings to keep her company.
