THE MICRO MANAGER GAMBLES!

The headline is right. The Micro Manager gambled at the Casino today.

Now I've never said that the micro Manager is not a gambler but those who've followed me for a while know that she is probably the last person to ever gamble.

     So what happened?

Well in this province there is a card called Winner's Edge. The government controls gaming and issues the Winner's Edge card which is something like a loyalty card. You can build up points on your card and redeem your points for meals, draws and gambling.

The other day The Micro Manager got a card in the mail that they had put $20.00 on her card. So there's only one way to get your twenty bucks. You have to gamble. The worst that can happen is that you lose the twenty bucks.

The Micro Manager has absolutely no idea how any gambling machine works so one of the staff helped her. Of course it didn't take very many minutes and the $20.00 was gone except for a nickel and that was too little to continue. She took the coupon and got her nickel. That's it for her gambling experience.  I wish I'd taken my camera to show you all the fun the Micro Manager had.

While I was out for my walk today , I found a nickel on the road so between the two of us we made 10 cents today!

It was fun while it lasted.

    1. VERY SLOWLY and I haven't got much time.

  2. Love your thought that the "worst that could happen" would be to lose the $20. The worst is staying and playing with your own money and losing big bucks! Attempting photos of the new gambler may have been forbidden. Photos inside U.S. casinos is not permitted. Funny little rule. Linda in Kansas

    1. No worries about us staying and playing. Casinos get about 90% of your money.

  3. Well that will certainly not have converted you to gambling!

  5. I would have been just as unable to figure it out as she was. No gambling so far, but then again I didn't get one of those coupons, :-)

    1. I don't think she learned one thing about the machine.

  8. So you can use the card to redeem for meals, but you get a credit based on it and you can only use it to gamble?

    1. That's the way it works. They also have a Wednesday draw for seniors. I've won it twice...$500.00.

  9. Still came out ahead! When you're not losing money out of your own pocket, it's a good day.

    1. This was a gimmick just to get you to try gambling.

  10. I just don't understand casinos. Maybe 25 years ago, I ended up at one for a bachelor party and bought a roll of nickels to play the slots. I played half the roll, put the other half of my pocket and went outside and slept in the car until the others were done. I haven't been back to one since.

    1. Las Vegas hotels used to give guests a little plastic tub of nickels
      and people played.

  11. We also once got something similar. I think we actually won a bit before we flamed out.

  13. From your description, it sounds like the province is promoting gambling. How does that even make sense when so many are addicted in a big way?

    1. The province definitely promotes gambling as a way to increase provincial revenues.

  14. That's funny.
I'm not a gambler and would not have been happy to have to gamble to claim my prize.

    1. They're not really giving you anything. Gambling very seldom pays.

  16. My one foray into gambling was very similar to the Micro Managers. In Reno we found a 50cent piece on the floor. This was back in the '80's. So, we put it in a slot machine and doubled it. We played the dollar and lost the whole thing. I quit. The kids were so disappointed!

    1. Typical gambling story. They suck you in with a small win and just as quickly take it away.

  17. It was a bit of fun, I guess. I don't gamble and I'd probably never claim the money

  18. The Micro Manager gambles like I did when we visited Vegas. I lost $20.00…maybe. Husband didn’t lose that much.

  19. It was not an enjoyable experience.

  20. Sounds like a fun and harmless outing, as long as you (and/or the MM) know when to stop. I question the government sending out those cards to people, though. Is it really the government's job to bait people to gamble more, even if it IS a source of revenue?

  21. LOL. Red, once my youngest called me and she was screaming her head off. I could hardly understand her. She bought a scratch off ("I NEVER BUY A SCRATCH OFF! SOMETHING TOLD ME TO DO IT!) and when she scratched it, she won ("I WON I WON I WON!!!!!)

Hoo, boy, I thought to myself. I asked cautiously, "How much did you win?" (TWO BUCKS!!! TWO BUCKS!!!! I WON TWO BUCKS OFF A ONE DOLLAR SCRATCH OFF.)

I laughed and said, "So...did you buy another ticket with your winnings?"

"Nope", she said seriously. "That's what they wanted me to do. I bought a coffee instead."

If the girl had won big time on her ticket, she'd have been hooked. Lucky the Micromanager only ended up with a nickel. That was a close one.
