THE MONEY MACHINE WAS EMPTY

I take my cans, bottles etc. to a large bottle depot. Sometimes you wait 30 minutes to drive through.

Once you get to a wicket your junk is quickly counted. It's high tech so a plastic card is issued. You take your card inside and tap the machine where it says tap. The machine spits out the amount of cash which was on the plastic card.

Well, today the guy in front of me had a big surprise when the machine said that it had run out of cash? What?

There is an attendant nearby and she came quickly and found a supply of cash to pay us.

I don't know when they'll fill up the money machine.

It's sort of like getting stuck in and elevator.

On a happier note my friends are celebrating a 61st anniversary! Happy anniversary to B and A.

  2. As far s I know, we no longer have a cash in value for bottles and cans. All of ours go into the recycle bin.

  3. We have a recycling truck down the street where you can bring your cans and bottles for redemption. However, there is an older woman now who might be homeless who is always hunting through everyone's recycling bin for cans and bottles. We feel so sorry for her that we've been giving all our cans and bottles to her.

  4. We have the option here of dropping off bags which are tagged with your identifiers. Later that day or the next day they credit your account and once it reaches $10 you can transfer it to your bank account. I like the system.

  5. First of all, congrats to B and A! Wow, 61 years … OMG! Now, I’ve heard of ATMs, but this is my first time to hear about a recycling “money machine.” I’ve got to check it out and see if we have one of those in Seattle. Heck, I’ve been putting my bottles and cans in the recycling bin with no payment for me other than the knowledge I’ve made a tiny effort to save the environment. Thanks for the heads-up Red.

  9. Like John, I've never heard of a recycling money machine. We put it all in the recycling bag they pick up once a week. And yes! Congrats on your 61 years!

  10. Oh yeah, it has been a long time since I was out your way, but I am now remembering that even cans have a surcharge. At least I am thinking that. Cans don't here, at least not tins of pop. I think we still recycle pretty well though although I am not personally familiar with machines such as yours.

  11. We can get 10 cents per bottle if we take them to a collection point but I think it gets credited to a card. I have never taken them, we have so few refundable bottles and cans i just put them in the recycle bin.
61 years is a long time!

  13. I have never heard of a collection place for bottles and cans here. We just put them in our recycling bin and it gets carted away. Happy Anniversary to your friends B & A.

  16. I find it amazing that you get cash for returning your cans and bottles. As a dedicated re-cycler myself, I have no need of a cash incentive to do my environmental duty.

  17. Here we put everything, garbage and recyclables in one big bin and the company that provides the pick-up service supposedly sorts it. 'Course we don't get any money for it, in reality we have to pay them.
