An Odd House Keeping Routine

Last week my manager asked me to do a number of house keeping tasks. Usually I do them as part of my share of keeping body and soul together. I have been known to whine from time to time about having to do some of these jobs.

Last week though, I go to do some heavy duty housework. I was asked to wash a bed room floor, vacuum a bedroom, vacuum living room furniture, vacuum the TV room and vacuum the games room. Wow! Not much was left.
29 cushions to clean off!

Now what caused me to do all these jobs was a polite request from the manager. What was the manager thinking? Well, the manager was going in for some medical tests this week. She had been increasingly worried about these tests. She knew the preparation was not fun. She became more and more uncomfortable about the tests themselves. She was worried what they would find. She even had her self convinced that she might not survive the test   The tests went by with flying colors. The report was that they were only 1/8 as difficult as she had thought. Nothing wrong was found.

So going away to the hospital and worrying about not surviving brought on the odd house keeping habit. I've heard of it before. I've heard people try to explain it or give an excuse for it. I don't think any answer for its occurrence is near complete or accurate. For an odd reason some house keepers get the urge to have their house spotlessly clean before they go away.

I would never be one of those house keepers!

  3. Hi Red.
I think the "better half" knows how to activate you into house-keeping chores! I am pleased to know that the "better half" has been found to be OK - health-wise, and that is a blessing.
Not that I am really into this blessing business from above. I do pray but my pleas go unanswered.
Here you can get assistance if you are incapable or keeping your apartment "up to scratch". Here the government will send a person to do the vaccum duties etc, it costs so I have been told $7.00 out of your pension payment, also medical people to check on your pills that you have to take. It must be so depressing for those of us (not me) to have this assistance. I really feel so sorry for them. Once, a long time ago, so vibrant and then with age all taken away. Sad, isn't it?
Best wishes to the "other half" on a speedy recovery.
    Cheers

  5. I think it is a female thing - wanting to leave the house in order, just in case! Glad all turned out well, and that you were willing (without whining too much)!

  8. Not very meticulous with housework myself. Until a few years ago I had a housekeeper come in once a week. I live alone so don't have to please many other than myself.

  9. I'm glad your wife is okay...and I UNDERSTAND her urge. And I would NOT like coming home to a mess...so all in all you did her an excellent thing!

  13. I'm glad all is well. I think the need to clean when you're anticipating your own demise is the desire to leave you home in such a way that the rest of the world thinks you've always lived so spotlessly. ;)

  15. Some people always have the need to clean the house from top to bottom before they go away for even a couple of days. Its really too nice of you to do all that at just one simple request from your manager!! :) Cheers, Ruby
