How to Make a Guy Feel Old (When he is Old Already)

This morning I was listening to my favorite radio station, CBC,  when a little item came on that caught my attention. Yes, the Beatles released "Love Me Do" on this date in 1962! You could have knocked me over with a feather! The Beatles and fifty years ago! It just didn't sound right. But give my head a little shake and yes it would be fifty years ago. Hard to believe.

I didn't listen to the Beatles that much when they first came out. I was still listening to country and western mostly.  I did listen to Elvis when he first came on the scene. I also listened to Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, Buddy Holly, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan... I began listening to and appreciating the Beatles long after they had become well established.  I am the kind of music listener who doesn't listen to the new stuff immediately. I discover the music long after it was out and then listen to it.

I also find it interesting that I lived in the Arctic for five years and was cut off from all the current music. I had to discover that a few years later.

So this morning it was quite a shock to have to stop and think how long ago the Beatles became established stars. To any eighteen year old, fifty years ago is something they cannot comprehend. I get fifty years easily because I've lived it. It's just that sometimes it takes a minute to rattle through my brain.

    Keep on enjoying good music.

  2. I ran across that story and I, too, had a hard time believing fifty years had passed. Where did all that time go?

    1. It seems that we hear the Beatles all the time and tend to think of them as the age they were when they sang.

  3. We really did have a great variety of the best music and those tunes have lasted over the years and still very popular. I have grown to really enjoy "Adele" recently - just LOVE music. Nice Post Red - have a great day.

  4. They came North America the year I was born! Amazing how you were so cut off during your time in the Arctic. THings have changed so much... everyone would know all about it now because of the internet.

You're young at heart. That's all that matters! :)

    1. That show was hyped long before it came on so the fuss was created. I remember seeing them . Nobody missed Ed Sullivan in those days.

  7. I understand! In 1962 my husband just graduated high school and I entered the 8th grade. It seems like yesterday. At that point I couldn't even comprehend 2012 and here I am!

  8. Red I was just having the age discussion with a couple of teen boys on Wed. night last week, their concept of old is far from my concept of old, then I thought back to when I was their age and 30 seemed ancient. I shared that with them and how in today's world the life expectancy has increased from even 50 years ago.

I love some of the older rock and roll, it makes much more sense to me than some of todays rock. The Beatles have never been a favorite of mine, but to each their own. One or two songs here and there and I've had my fill for a while.

Enjoy your day and keep on rockin'! :-)

    1. Yes, when I was 16 I thought 18 was old!
I borrow CDs from the library so I get a second chance to listen to a lot of music.
I had a good thanksgiving and will look for more music.

    2. I'm glad to hear you had a good Thanksgiving Red and I hope you find some good CD's which bring back some awesome memories for you. I love listening to older music sometimes, it takes me to a different place in time. Sometimes I go back to the farmhouse, a first love, a husband or even the children when they were growing up. I went through the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band phase back then and still enjoy them from time to time.

Here's hoping for another beautiful day, one where you can get out cycling. Darn snow anyways! lol

    1. What you say about age is not crazy. It's completely normal. I still have in my head that I'm a teenager.

  10. Time does pass in the blink of an eye. I feel my age physically but not mentally. In my mind I'm much younger : ) I have been with the Beatles from the beginning. Watched their first American performance on Ed Sullivan and bought their 45's. Boy, that was a long time ago!!

  12. When I heard it on the National news here I stopped to Red. Time passes and we hardly realize it has.
I was a not yet a teenager when the Beatles took the USA by storm. I still have my Hard Day's Night album and I've still got time before I sing their When I'm Sixty-four. :)
