Comments Rock

More and more I appreciate comments that followers and readers leave after my posts. Comments can do many things. Comments can compliment, affirm, amuse, enlighten and sometimes disappoint.

Comments that some people make will add to what I've written. I don't always say all that could be said because I am unaware or too impatient.

It's always pleasant when someone agrees with you. However, I am not upset when someone disagrees. I appreciate a good debate and I will never make personal slurs and can usually ignore personal attacks and stick to the argument.

Some commenters have amazing wit. There are many types of humorous replies. The ones I really like are those that are very distant that if you're not careful you'll miss it.  You can guess that I like Far Side the cartoon. I also like Far Side one of my followers!

Commenters usually have their own characteristics and their comments are predictable. In other words readers that are stable and thoughtful.

Other commenters take a global view and are able to make a comment the applies to the whole post. Others will focus on one point in the post. I tend to reply to one small part of the post. I haven't missed the rest of the post . I just think that one part of the post is more important to me.

It's gratifying to see how hard readers work to keep up with comments. Some days you find a reader will comment on three or four posts. I appreciate people who have been busy and go back and read older posts. I  find that sometimes I just have to miss comments for a day or two. I can read the posts but I don't have time to make comments.

Now I've posted on comments before. Comments are very meaningful and positive for me. The comments keep me going.

Thanks to all readers who stop by Hiawatha House and leave a comment.

  1. agreed. comments are why most of us blog. the affirmations we receive that our content - be it thoughts, photographs, crafts, etc. - is interesting or appreciated is gratifying.

i'm very often a 'single point' commenter. the thought that jumps out at me is usually the one i'll reply about. like you, it doesn't mean i didn't read the rest - just the one piece that resonates with me is what i zone in on. :)

    1. I think that writing should be a two way street. It should be a conversation. Each has their own style. I like TexwisGirl which is snappy and to the point with both photos and text.

  2. Hi mate!
Well as you sent in an e-mail re: my recent trip to the doctor, “you’ll be around a bit longer”, re: my very detailed report, almost as good as a "medico", if I say so myself????
    Warts and all eh?
I only view about 10 blogs, if that? Some I comment directly on, others I send e-mails on. Your blog is thought provoking and naturally you will get many different views. If I don’t know, what the Bloody Hell you are on about, I will ask.
If the blog is NOT interesting, and some are not – just the bloggers views of things that are of no interest to me at all.
I do not place a comment - just occasionally have a look.

“TexWisGirl” – you will be surprised at this – to get up my 3 or 4 “favorites” to look at
I use your blog – it always works – mostly from Carletta’s (WV) blog. The only one that does - take a bow!
Then I can swap them all around – ha ha.

Recently after the US elections, I e-mailed a "blog friend" on the result. I was told "Never contact me again"! This response really hurt me. I am sure the USA is still in place, and the State, from where this came has not ceded from the Union.
It is unfortunate that in some cases a word presumed out of place can cause such a ridiculous backlash.
I am Catholic, I do go to church, but I cannot tolerate the blogs of the "Bible Bashers".
You have seen my College in Sydney:

A good provoking blog again - well done.

    1. Colin, you've made a whole post here.
I must admit that I didn't publish your first comment. I didn't get it. As comments went on you explained some things that may be considered offensive terms. when that's cleared away one can take a different view of your comments. they are always humorous and challenging.

  3. I also enjoy comments but never cease to be amazed at the posts that attract the most.
It seems to have little to do with the number of views.

    1. I find the same thing. I can write a post that I think really stinks and people like it. I know that sometimes I can not tie a post together the way I would like it to go.That makes things interesting.

  4. Red I can't say how much I appreciate your comments on my blog. I try to keep up to reading others blogs, those I'm following, yet sometimes life gets in the way, which is neither good nor bad. I like to read an entire post, I love your stories and generally I find there's a lot I can comment on, you have a 'real' way of writing and I enjoy reading what you have to say.

    1. I'll let you in on a tip. I was a Jr Hi language arts teacher. I always made a bargain with the kids that I would do every writing assignment I gave them. I would write on the overhead and they could watch. It was lot of fun.

  5. In just about everything I read, there is always ONE comment or very few words that stand out amongst all the rest. it does not mean I haven't read the entire post, it means something stood out that attracted my attention and I simply have to reply to that. I also try to reply to each and every comment I receive and do apprechiate the time it takes for each reader to respond. Comments always welcomed at SaucyKodz too Red - did I tell you lately I thoroughly enjoy your BLOG, Eh Buddy.

  6. I'm the same as Tex, Red: I read the whole thing but usually don't comment on every aspect. I also appreciate comments and yours are always welcome. They are a way that I know I am connected to my readers, and when a post receives long thoughtful comments, I am very happy indeed. But not all posts deserve them, as they are what I think of as "throwaway" posts, pretty pictures and not much substance.

    1. You write comments that certainly express that you like the post. I also think that when a post doesn't warrant a comment don't comment. What I find is that I get behind on comments.

  10. I always very much appreciate the comments you leave on my blog! And I'm glad you got a computer and internet so that you have a blog of your own. I enjoy your view of the world. :)

  11. I like that you've acknowledged your visitors who comment, yet you pointed out the understanding that a lack of comment doesn't necessarily mean that the post wasn't read. The comments are certainly one of the most enjoyable parts of the blogging experience. The receiving and the commenting on others blogs.

  12. Hiya Red, Yes comments Rock! I like comments too..I think you have to make them to get them! I love the blogging world..and all the friends I have made including you. I love the conversation:)

  13. I enjoy reading your blog & comments others leave for you. I also enjoy your comments you leave on my blog. Life is a wisp of wind and all that we will leave behind are the words that touched a heart or provoked a mind...
I also think your title for this one is intriguing when you think of the fact that words (comments) can hurt like rocks thrown...
