Fresh New Snow

Yesterday we got about 15 cm (6 in.) of fresh snow. We had a good snow cover before and this added to the accumulation. My ski trail is in excellent condition. I had to get busy with the snow shovel!

Temperatures have been  from minus 15 ( 2 F) to minus 10(12 F) . The sun set this afternoon at 4:25 and will rise tomorrow morning at 8:27 AM so that means we have 7 hours and 58 minutes of sun. We lose another two minutes in the afternoon and then it stops. The sun sets at 4:23 for about 7 days and then we start gaining in the afternoon again. We still lose time in the morning. We do get long beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

My heavily loaded juniper.
A little snow on the roof!

Spruce full of snow

I'm enjoying my snow although many people disagree with me. I hope you enjoy  a look at the snow.

  3. I much prefer to see your snow than ours.. which so far has eluded us. We're hovering around 7C today and it's supposed to rise to 12C overnight and then drop in the afternoon. I don't mind a repeat of the mild winter we had last year. Snow on the roof is a cute image.

    1. So I touched a sore spot with snow!!!
7 isn't hard to take. We have had some winters like that and some brown Christmases.

  4. Red the snow is pretty, when I don't have to get out shovelling! lol Actually I posted about the snow tonight, we've sure had a lot of it and I only wish I could see the sunrises and sunsets you speak of, where I'm at I don't see them at all. It's almost time to take a trip out to the country I'm thinking, maybe in January, this month is hectic.

I love your photos! And good for you that you can ski now. Have a wonderful week!

    1. Hey, I complain all the time about missing the sunsets as I live in town where you can't see horizons. Sunsets and sunrises are things you never forget. I saw them on the farm and in the Arctic.

    2. I can't even begin to imagine how beautiful the sunsets were in the Arctic!

  6. I DO enjoy looking at your snow Red! Trying to decorate for Christmas and be in the Christmas spirit would go so much easier if I had snow.
However, a weird weather pattern has us at 70 degrees these last couple of days.

    1. Yes, you've really got some warm stuff. My daughter in Chicago was reporting 15 C ( 60 F)

  7. Oh God! I am beginning to take a fancy to your "white stuff" . Heatwave here and more to come. Here today, 39 Celsius, in the west of Qld temps reached records of 48 Celsius. Dry heat inland, on the coast we "sauna" with the humidity!
The Southern States had this heatwave on the weekend. Australia is on full RED ALERT - bushfires! This coming summer is expected to break records! Our last two summers have spoilt us, only the occasional horrible, sauna day and night, but we did cop the bad storms. This year it is predicted that we will get both - Oh happy days and nights ahead!

  8. Here 'down under' we've just had the hottest day since records began to be kept in the mid 19th century. It was 102F this afternoon, and it's only the 4th day of summer!

  9. That's great, Red, that you enjoy the snow instead of scowling at it. It was snowing here a while ago too but I'm not sure the snow will last as the temperature isn't low enough. I like snow, even if it brings complications sometimes...

  11. Well, here in the Pacific Northwest, it's raining (big surprise). In the mountains, however, it's really snowing! I'll be going up there one of these days and playing in the snow with my snowshoes. :-)

    1. Your weather crosses the mountains and then swirls back against the Rockies and drops the snow.

    1. And you won't have to wait long. One of the biggest storms I was ever in was in Minneapolis. Had to land at the airport and it was more than scary.

  14. Hiya Red, Our snow melted..there may be a patch or two in the shade..we are brown again. I will enjoy your snow from afar! Your times are interesting..we have sunrise at 7:48 and sunset at 4:30 for 8 hours and 42 minutes of daylight. I am always glad when we are on the slow increase:)

    1. With the chinooks here we could lose our snow too.
Yes I look at sunrise and sunset time very closely in Dec. Jan. It's good to see the day start to lengthen again.

  15. HiYah Red - OMGosh, you have snow - I dont know what is happening in the Maritimes, but we are back to mild, very warm temps and today we have FOG?? Usually by now, I can skate on the pond and trek on my snowshoes. YOU HAVE SNOW - any room on that ski trail for about 5 others? ha,ha I like the photo of your olde tree that you saved with a snow cap on his head. He needs a bright scarf and a proper cap for the holiday season. Thankyou for your kind comments and I laughed at your remark - Yep, all kinds of ideas could come from that. Have fun in the snow ......as we wait, n wait, n wait, Eh.

  17. No snow here. I enjoyed your temp and day length information. We are an hour longer than you (I think). I think you are way much colder than us. 49* today. Please send some snow this way...we really need it. Even the little farm kids are aware that water comes from snow and we are very short of both!
