Snow Rats

Snow rats? Yes. I thought if there could be "rug rats" then there could be snow rats. These three boys are in kindergarten and gr. one. They had a Friday afternoon off from school These three and one more played outside in the snow all afternoon.
One of my buds is under there

I skied around them and stopped to visit a couple of times. When i went home I came back with my camera and took pictures. They hollered at their Mom, " A boy took our picture." Do I like these kids. They know me well and see me often and I am still a boy!
I think somebody left his teeth at home

It was about minus 3 C with brilliant sunshine. They were probably soaking wet. There was not a parent hovering over these boys as they played in the snow. I classify these boys as free range kids. they are allowed to be on their own. They were obviously not sitting in the house with a video game or watching TV. I wish more kids would spend the whole afternoon playing.
Pretty healthy looking boys!
These guys were never still all afternoon.
I wish I had a hat like those.
Snow rat tracks

So one old boy and four little guys had the snow to themselves for a pleasant sunny afternoon.

    1. They just amused themselves with snow, sticks, wrestling hiding and anything else their imaginations came up with.

  2. Snow rats - I like that Red!
My two granddaughters love the snow. It finally snowed where they were today. They don't get to see it much but they got bundled up and their mommy said they went out twice.
Kids here had a snow day yesterday and today. I saw one set of neighbor kids out sledding yesterday for maybe a half hour the others not at all.
I remember it was so much fun to go out and get wet and cold!! Guess that's why I still love the fluffy white stuff.
I noticed their hats right away. I bought myself one with those braids - it's the Grinch!

    1. In our day we were not micro managed and had no TV, video games or other distractions from just plain play.

  3. I totally agree that it is great for them to be outside instead of in front of video games and such. Their faces show pure bliss. I like the term snow rats ;)

    1. All rowdy noisy little boys. They all are very mannerly. When I tell them have a great time on the toboggan hill the automatically say "You too!"

  5. Great to see, kids enjoying outside activities, even if it is freezing cold. Far better than being "couch potatoes" in front of a TV or playing video games and gobbling MacDonald's!
Today here is Australia Day (26th January), however the rain has dampened all outdoor activities: beach, park and pool picnics and BBQ's, but only the idiot and selfish brigade would complain. It was desperately needed and has knocked out all the QLD bush fires, now some flash flooding, but it is the monsoonal season.
Hopefully the rain will go south where bush fires are still raging.
The farming fraternity are ecstatic - rain is great as the outlook was looking grim for them.
Better news is that after 2010/11 floods here in Brisbane, sense has been restored and thousands of mega litres of water from the major dams is being released at various intervals into the rivers. Rain will continue for a few more days. Tres bon!(My "parlez vous" effort!!!)
A great report Red, makes one think that some families still let kids enjoy a natural life.
    Cheers

  6. What fun! The joys of being in a smaller community vs. the city, children can be snow rats and not have parents hovering over them, the entire community is keeping a watchful eye on the young ones... the way it should be in my opinion.

Enjoy your weekend Red, I don't know what's predicted there but here we're supposed to plummet back down to -20 or colder on Tuesday... I'm hoping the weather person is way off base!

  8. yep, I'm pretty sure its 3 guys n a girl too, but then you probably had frost on your eyelids and couldn't see that well. ha,ha
Nice to see kids playing outside. My next door neighbour has super large property and half moon driveway. he instructed the plough that does his driveway to scoop the snow up HIGH in one area, so the snow rats on our street have a really high hill to slide down onto the safety of the rest of his large property. The kids slide, roll, try the plain old body slide and its just fun to watch all that happen. My little dog wants to run up the top and come down with the kids, or she gets up there and looks around like an Eagle Scout - like she is the "King of the Mountain". Lovely, charming post about the "young boy" and the snow rats.

    1. So one big pile of snow provides a lot of fun. There are quite a few shrubs in this close so they had a supply of sticks and lots of hiding places.
Three boys and one old guy. These guys are performers and like their pictures taken.
