Snow: What a Big Surprise!

Today we received about 15 - 20 cm ( 5 in.) of snow. Light fluffy snow started falling early this morning. Snow had been forecast but it was to be very little. We missed the nasty stuff that went through Saskatchewan, Manitoba and God knows where else. Saskatchewan and Manitoba had some very nasty weather with high winds. Roads were closed. Large snow drifts were formed. Cars were abandoned on streets and roads.

This was just a very quiet and gentle fall of snow. It was pleasant. Even the shoveling was easy.
When life gives you snow...ski!
This stump with the roof gives a measure of the snow.
The yard light is loaded with snow. I wish I could say the snow bent the lamp but it didn't.
My two meter birch tree is well protected with snow.

  2. There will always be something magical about snow for those of us who experience very little of it.

  3. You got more! I'm STILL waiting. We had 70 degrees this weekend. I'm thinking the robins will begin showing up before we really have any winter here!

    1. 70 is unbelievably! My daughter lives near Chicago and they've been getting similar weather.

  4. So pretty! We just had our January thaw. Supposed to get a little snow this week. We still have a good covering on the ground but it's messy. I want to go cross-country skiiing.

    1. That's what's been nice this winter. We haven't had a thaw at all. The snow has been great for skiing except for the damn leave that are blowing in the trails.

    1. I would think your winters would be tough with such a variety of rain, ice, cloud, snow and wind.

  10. Nice light snowfall Red - I like those too. Our 15 inches plus, have been melting in the sun these past few days. Two days of deep fog took a whack of it off the roof. Now the sun is shining today. I like your snow photos - NICE

    1. Yes 15 - 20 cm of snow here is a lot. You can really get a pile of snow in the Maratimes.

    1. You don't want to get sleet. At least your sleet will melt. If we get sleet it's a while before we can get rid of it.

  14. Great snow photos, Red. These light, fluffy snow falls can, as you point out, be a real joy. Cross country skiing is part of those good times, and there is no problem keeping warm doing that. Thanks for these posts.

    1. Yes, cross country skiing is warm. Up until recently I never wore gloves while I skied.

  15. Great pictures. We have had a couple of cms here but nothing too serious - yet. Pictures of snow are normally far better than the real thing.

    1. Yes, of course! Usually the storms track south east from here and get bigger as the move. One of the worst storms I was ever in was in Minneapolis. I was stuck in the airport .

  18. Red I like what you said; "When life gives you snow...ski!" That's awesome!

We had the same snow here in the city, it was a shovel three times kind of day but I have my nephew staying with me for a while and he offered so I graciously let him shovel! :-)

  19. We had ice in our trees, some power lines down, but NO SNOW.The ice in the trees did make the world look like a crystal palace, but so very dangerous. It is all gone now and so is the crystal palace...
