I Was Zinged the Other Day

A few days ago I met my 89 year old friend coming into the grocery store for his weekly supply of groceries. I meet him and his wife every couple of months doing their grocery shopping. Our wives love to chat like there's no tomorrow. In two minutes Howard and I have talked about all we know and we're ready to continue and pick up our groceries. So fifteen minutes, twenty minutes and their conversation seems to be not close to an end. Howard has a sense of humor so he says , "Watch this. I'll get them moving." and he snaps his fingers. Nothing happens. We are the only ones who get the joke.

So the other day when Howard came into the store , he saw my wife had her back turned to them and Howard knew his wife didn't see my wife so he was going to hustle things right along before they saw each other. As Howard's wife was being guided away she said, over her shoulder to me, "Patience is a virtue, seldom found in women and never found in men."  It knocked my socks off! It was a very apropos quote for the moment.

A day or two later Quoteflections had quotes on patience. I copied them out and sent them to Howard's wife as I know she loves quotes.

So I was zinged a few days ago and had to honestly think about patience.

    1. But men have to realize that the is part of the beast. That's how women communicate. I usually don't have a problem with that.

  4. That was a great zinger on her part.
On Howard's behalf I don't know if the moment was really about patience or just wanting to get on about the business and back out as soon as possible. :)

  5. Funny!
In my College days of boarder years, 1957/1960, at Joey's in Sydney - 650 of us from years, starting years from about 11 years - finishing years about 17 or 18, boarders and the largest boarding college in the Southern Hemisphere, 1st year to 5th year in what overseas is called here college years, we had this TERRIBLE P. E, instructor, once a week for so called "boot camp" activities.
Now it is an extra year - high school /college or whatever.

This "creature" and I am being nice, had eyes everywhere.
The idea was to be as far back from the front row as possible, it was a battle.
But Great Eyes noted this and between the physical torture, he would by means unknown to this day, spot
someone lacking - so in my one and only case it was - Huggins, 100 lines of " Patience is a virtue, a virtue I must
strive to attain" - to be delivered to the Headmaster by 8.00pm!
This to me only happened once, I made sure I jumped and did everything despite the pain from then on, and yes somehow I did find the time to write out the lines - was 200 as that above will not fit onto one line of paper.
This "boot camp" person was not a real member of the staff at said St. Josephs College, he was the scourge
of all GPS colleges in Sydney.
Here for readers see my college: now far better improved than those days for we boarders.
Now the seniors have their own rooms!!!!

Funny Keith how you keep up bringing up old memories??? Are you a "super sleuth"????
Patience, I do try, but sadly lack these days, thanks to that "boot leg" creature, I think, anyhow I am blaming
    him.
Sorry for taking up so much space, keep 'em coming, you certainly can come up with good and interesting blog entries.

    1. I guess the memories come from me being such an elderly character and I only talk about ancient things!

  11. My husband is the 'chatter' in our family. I rarely find that I want to talk and talk and talk. I guess it is good that there is one social person to off-set the silent one.

  15. I had to look the word "zing" up, it doesn't seem to be an expression used on this side of the Atlantic. But whilst we might not have the word, we certainly have the same over-talkative wives (or also have the ability to put us in our places with a snap of the fingers)

    1. Zing is slang here for when someone makes a smart comment. In this one the comment was directed at me.

  16. I love that quote! I am always telling my hubby he needs to be more patient. I wonder if it's really true that men are inherently less patient than women???
