Ghost #2

In a previous post , I described how I found 10 pieces of sculpture and that I would  show  what we have in Red Deer As far as sculpture is concerned.

This sculpture shows a railway worker pleading with a little dog that has his foot on the worker's two dollar bill. The sculpture refers to the struggle the workers had to look after their money. Credit Unions were formed in the 1930's and 40's to look after worker's money. The local credit union funded the making of this sculpture and of course it sits in front of the Credit Union.

Carefully trying to retrieve his money

What is this guy trying to do?

A stand off!

  2. That sculpture really appeals to me. I've always had a love of sculptures in general though not, of course, of all sculptures. This one stands out and speaks to me.

  6. And I see the snow is almost gone, Red. Very interesting sculpture! I would never have known what was going on, thinking maybe he was just getting ready to pet the dog. :-)

    1. Yes you have to look for the money. In this photo the money is under the snow.

  9. Your town seems to be remarkably rich with public art.

  10. For every land sale a certain percentage is kept for public art. As you might well imagine there are those who are horrified by this practice.

  11. Red I didn't know you're in Red Deer, this is only a hop, skip and a jump away from the city! If by chance I'm heading to Calgary anytime in the near future I'll get in touch with you and maybe we could meet for a coffee? I'd love to meet you!

    Cute sculpture.

  12. Our son just got back from Grand Cash. He was delighted with the longer days AND in seeing the Northern Lights! I looked up Red Deer on the map...Now I know just where you are!
