Ghost #4

Ghost number four is called Sounding the Alarm. It's  a tribute to local firefighters. There was a large tragic fire here in 1904 and after that the local fire department was formed.

This is the most elaborate of all the statues as it has four separate figures and the fire wagon.

Sound the Alarm sits in front of the children's library which was at one time the main fire hall and before that an armory.

The the left side shows the  first phase of the local library . On the right is the old fire hall with Sound the Alarm right at to corner.  The brick building with the tower was the old fire hall.

Harnessing some high strung horses.

I think the artist caught the excitement in this statue with the horses and men getting ready to go to a fire.

The driver was doing all he could to keep control of his horses.

  3. That's a very complex sculpture and an amazing amount of work must have gone into it. Too bad more people aren't aware of it, but you're certainly doing your part to spread the word.

    1. Complex is a good word to use on this one. Most of the artists who did these are local.

  9. Interesting and unusual sculptures. And Far Side isn't the only Minnesota blogger sick of snow as I look out my window today and see white stuff coming down...:(

  10. A most difficult pose to capture, showing all the excitement of horses springing forward. I would think this might have taken the artist quite some time to complete. Interesting, informative post Red, this Ghost #4

    1. All these take a tremendous amount of work as the process is long. This is one that's easy to photograph as it's so well done.

  11. Very interesting sculpture. You captured it so I could enjoy it, too. I always wonder how things like this are imagined and come to fruition. Thanks for sharing it, Red.

    1. Well, the artists tell me that they get an idea in their head and then go out and make it. Sounds too simple to me!

  12. Love the energy in the sculpture, my nephews are volunteer firefighters, they would love this. Nice reminder of those first responders who look after all of us in an emergency.

It's terrible weather here and heading into the heartland tomorrow. Side wind, snow, -5* wind chill just plain ugly.

    I'm really ready for SPRING!!!!

It seems there's no shortage of nasty weather this year. So we should get a long nice summer!

  15. This one is quite elaborate and the artist got some great detail in the sculpting.
I think we tend to forget how hard it was for those in the past. Not like climbing on a truck and turning the sirens on that's for sure.
Another nice one in your series Red!
