I just Discovered That I've Been Living Under a Toadstool

I few days ago I was walking through part of downtown to a place where I wanted to get some photos. When I walk through downtown I take many short cuts. I cross parking lots diagonally. I go through back alleys. I go between buildings. I go through buildings I do all of this to get to the place I want to go. I'm not quite as bad as my friend Walter, because he goes through people's yards.

So the other day I came up over a berm and through some trees and I saw something I had never seen and I didn't know what it was. I had seen construction at the location for about six months but it's behind the trees. I had read about the site in the paper , but I did not remember what it was.

What I saw looked like large plastic colorful flowers. I immediately began taking pictures so that I could make an identification. There was no one at the scene so I couldn't ask about the site.

So here are the photos. You tell me what this is. No peeking now!

So, a poor picture but you see the flowers

Rocks and a trail

More rocks. Man did I stink on these pictures

More flowers
So I asked some one a few blocks away and they told me that it was the city's new spray park! Am I out of it?

Now that I know what this is, I'm wondering if I could go there at night when no one's around so that I could try the Spray Park. I wouldn't want to be seen as that might be embarrassing!

  1. I'd love to go too.... when no one's around! Maybe they should make one for adults! Come to think of it, I do have grandchildren I could take though (as a good cover)!!

    1. So I've found out that there are different names. Some of them can be huge facilities as one I saw in downtown Chicago.

I'm glad you asked. I'd never have guessed.

    1. I would think it's shut off when it's dark, but I will check.

  5. I was going to guess that. Many areas in cities have these in place of expensive swimming pools that require staff and health monitoring. I think they are wonderful for children who live in apartments and can get some summer relief for free.

  6. Interesting! I've noticed some new fountains in the city for children to play in, but I've never heard of a spray park. I'd love to know if it's used often.

    1. On hot days these are heavily used. We have two others which aren't as jazzy as this one.

  7. First, I have not looked at any other photos or read the rest of your post - am answering to your question - am not cheating - I am assuming it is a "splash Pad", with the flowers having water sprinkle/spray out of them? Will now go back and read more and comment again.
OK, now that I have looked at the rest of the photos and finished reading your post - the "Spray Park" is what we call a "Splash Pad" here in our little town down at the park. Neat idea with the flowers - I love it. Nice discovery Red and when I zoomed to your bigger photos, the photos are not as bad as you expressed - in fact, they are quite good. I enjoyed this read.

    1. These facilities seem to have different handles in different locations. Now would I ever doubt you! Never!

  9. I would have guessed correctly! I figured it was a spray park as soon as I saw the big flowers. The kids love these on hot summer days - maybe some of us adults should try it . . .

    1. Yes, there are scads of kids art these things on a hot day. I'm sure many adults will try it. Look at the first post which is somebody from Red deer.

  11. I had no idea it got warm enough in your area to warrant a spray park. Never been to one but it looks like fun.

    1. Well, I guess it's made for kids so I shouldn't take their space away. Besides , some little kid might knock me over!

  13. Like many others I had no idea what a spray park was. And then I discovered it is a place you go to in order to get really wet. We have one here. It's called England.

  15. We have lived next door to one for the past 10 years. It is a very popular place and the kids love it. Gets kind of noisy at times when there are a lot of kids splashing and playing in the sprayers.

  16. Oh I could see right away that it was a splash pad.. we have one not too far from where I've lived for the past 30 years. My kids used to love it and I still enjoy watching the kidlets play there.Yours is far more colourful though.. what a fun site to happen upon.

  20. Huh? Weird. I think I've lived in small town rural America fifty years too long. Just one more thing I'm not "up on." :)

  21. I've never seen anything like that and I wouldn't have guessed, Red. It's a fascinating idea, I'm absolutely amazed! Must be a paradise for children in hot days.

As for your night visit, is it in operation at night? Do you think you just switch the sprays on and off? I'm quite curious to know how it works.

  22. We have a less-fancy version of this at the park in our nearest town. We go to that park to run with our coach on Thursday nights. When it's really hot, I run as close to the spraying water as possible without invading the kids' space! :)
