Hiawatha House Goes Dark for Today

Today I don't have anything ready to write about. I have a few ideas in the back of my head but I'm not ready to work on them. Maybe I'm a little lazy today.

So today, Hiawatha House will be dark!

Dark comes from the theatre when there's no show on for the day. The lights for the stage are off so it's dark. Dark also comes from horse racing when there's a day with no races.

I know that bloggers quite often have dark days. We need breaks. Forcing a post probably results in so so post. Forcing a post puts stress on the writer.

I've been following some rooky bloggers and they find it challenging to come up with ideas for posts. I think some of them are too fussy. You have ideas and then you have to build a post on that idea. Tell an interesting story.

Do you get stressed out when stories dry up? What do you do when the well runs dry?

  2. i mostly use photos in my posts, but even then, i have trouble putting posts together sometimes. i try to have a few days scheduled ahead, and some days it is like pulling teeth to make something come together. and every so often, i can put a week together without hardly any effort. :)

    1. You post every day so it's the volume that adds to the challenge.

  3. I usually just build a story around a picture. I don't worry about it too much. I guess my readers can tell.

    1. You build the post around a picture or two and then you usually wander off to something else. It's your style. Yes, one shouldn't worry too much.

  5. I post anyway and take a chance on a boring entry. But I do not write every day and I now write with more irregularity, now that I am so busy with spring.

    1. You make a good point about feeling satisfied when we write a post. Sometimes we know we've nailed it with a post and we really feel good.

  7. I have lots of dark days - but those come more from lack of time than lack of ideas. Lots of things run through my mind, but there are also so many things that I try to fit into my free time - including downtime. For me, it's finding a balance. If I let myself stress about it, I'll probably give it up.

  8. Hi Red my life is so darn crazy busy I always seem to have some story running around in my head but a lot of them never make the print stage. Have fun in the "dark" I cannot wait to see what you come up with. B

  9. I just post whatever is in my head and do a bit of research if I have an idea. I never worry about posting - I just post when I have the time - there is always something to post about when I have time to actually sit down and write one. I have never felt like I "had to write". I just write when it think about it and its the farthest worry from my mind. Cool "Dark" post Sir Red :)

    1. Your posts usually have some very well expressed ideas. You find some history and relate it to today.
Sir Red appreciates your comments and humor.

  10. If I draw a blank, and I do sometimes, I usually start with just as you did here: admitting it and just writing away to see what comes up. I've always got something stirring in my brain. I love your posts, Red, even the "dark" ones. :-)

  14. I get stressed when I can't get out to take photos. Winter was just awful...cold, wet..miserable. I feel renewed just because of the nice weather (except when it's storming!)

  15. Seems to me you are not "dark" after all. I do not have a daily standard, or even a weekly routine. I post when i have something of interest. Sometimes it's feast or famine.

  16. Ideas and photos I have a plenty (because my blog is partly diary, partly information and partly whimsy) to keep me going for another decade anyway. I don't allocate as much time to blog writing as I would if I wanted to blog every day. So I just blog when I can. It works for me.

  17. I know all about dark days - I've had enough of them myself. Don't leave us in the dark for too long though.
