Spring Limps to Hiawatha House.

We are experiencing some spring weather. We've had above 0 C (32 F) highs for 7 days. Some of our snow is starting to disappear. However , things have moved very slowly.

We've had snow since the end of October. When snow melts all the grunge that has been mixed in over the winter shows up. It's not a pretty sight.  Some leaves fell after the snow fell and they are pretty messy. We have bare patches of ground but the grass is still brown.

It's incredible how dirty snow can get

Snow plows make windrows when they take the sow off the road.

Now the camera has picked up some green bit I assure you I don't have green grass.
Sunrise today was at 6:56 and sunset is 8:20 so we get 13 hours and 24 minutes of sunlight a day.

Now if I could only send some snow to Far Side of Fifty I might win here prize for guessing the day her snow disappears!

So as you can see, spring is slowly coming to Hiawatha House.

    1. It comes very rapidly here because the sun is much more direct at this time of year.

  3. We have many sights here just like yours with MOUNDS of dirty snow. Yesterday was a HOT, sunny, spring day so we ate lunch on the deck, and enjoyed the afternoon with a nice long walk. Snow is sooooo dirty this time of year and all I found on my walk as far as growing was a handful of pussy willows down by the river. Spring is on its way here too, its raining today - hopefully it will take down those snowbanks. Cheers :)

    1. I hope the rain ashes away some of the dirt. I'm surprised you didn't find a dandelion!

    1. It seems that this year the green comes right after the snow is gone.

  8. I'm glad it's finally getting there. I'm in southern California right now where the temperature yesterday was 34C (94F) and I almost melted down! :-)

  12. It is amazing how the grass survives at all after being buried in all that snow for all of six months. Good luck with Far Sides' Snow Stick Raffle.

  13. Yup, it sure looks like spring. It's not the prettiest time of year; a lot of dirty snow and stuff. But with some rain, and the sprouting of flowers, etc, it'll be beautiful again in no time.

  14. Gosh! Old snow does get awfully dirty. I enjoyed your post on music (I can't seem to keep up lately). It's funny, I've been thinking of writing a post on the music I listened to over the years. I just may have to do that. :)

  16. Ha..it has turned warm here and Thursday I will announce the winner...but you know this is Minnesota and we could still get more snow and resume the contest!
I hate the dirty snow too...looks like piles of dirt in town. We need rain to help clean things up again:)

    1. The parking lot snow is rally gross. So we need rain to wash things off. And then again we could get more snow.

  17. I'm always amazed how anything survives under all that snow. It must be so refreshing when it is all gone and things grow again.

  19. I noticed in the parking lot at Wal-Mart one day what I thought was gray sand and gravel under a light pole and couldn't imagine why and then realized that was where the snow had been piled when they plowed the lot. A lot of dirt.

  20. We still have a lot too. The last few days have been warm and very sunny but there was so much snow accumulated that there is at least still one foot on the ground. It is melting fast but somehow not fast enough.

  21. Grass!! There's hope!! I am hoping all the snow will be gone when we get back from Sri Lanka, but it may be wishful thinking...

  22. It will be touch and go if the snow is gone when you get back. On the other hand we could get a big snow storm to greet you when you get back.
