I Need Help With Memory

I do not have a good memory. I have lots of excuses for my poor memory but none of them are good. In fact, I have a very poor attitude towards memory.

When I was a child I hated memory work. In Sunday School I had to memorize many bible verses. For memorizing a certain number of bible verses  I would get a pencil and then an eraser and God knows what else. Now when I stop and think about it there's very little that I remember of any verses I memorized. I memorized the 23 rd Psalm. It starts...The Lord is my shepherd...there's something about green pastures and something about still waters. That's it! The rest is gone!

We had to memorize poetry in school.I hated it. I remember not one line. In our final high school literature exams we had memory work on the exam. It was always so many lines of Shakespeare. Again I remember not one line.

As I said my reasons for a poor memory were all bad. Obviously I had a very poor attitude. Today I enjoy listening to people recite poetry.

Now for the last few days a rogue blog has been appearing on my blog. This blog is not on my reading list.  It's in a foreign language. Things like this really catch my attention and I stay away from them and don't open anything. I don't want to open  can of worms or worse.

I immediately began to search and find out how to get rid of this unwanted blog.  So this is what I found. Click on the star in the upper right of the dashboard. Next click blogger help. Then click on trouble shoot areas. Then click on report abuse. Next click on spam, malware and phishing. Under phishing provide the url of the offending blog. This will bring up a form to make your report.

I did all these things. It only took a minute for them to come back with the answer. They reminded me that I had checked off that I could be informed of new products! Darn! I'd forgotten that! It was nice of Blogger to be able to remind me of what I had done. They were also kind enough to tell me how I could stop the mystery blog from appearing.

I find that blogger is extremely helpful when you go through this procedure. They come back with something that is easy to understand.

Now I have to stop and ask, "How much does blogger or any other program keep track of on me?" I think I know the answer.

  2. Psalm 23 also has something about 'I shall not want' and lying down in pastures green. The pastures green may be in a different one.
You seem to have managed perfectly. I would have had to write the instructions down.

  3. I have the same problem, if enough times goes by. I threw my lower back out the other day and remembered one of my blogging friends posted some good exercises to help. I not only don't remember who or when, I cannot find them again, now that I need them! Oh well. :-)

    1. There's no sense of getting bent out of shape when you can't remember something. In this case there should be lots of examples of how to stretch a lower back.

  4. That's kinda scary though, huh?

  6. A few years back I was researching a novel I was writing and I went on line to learn about Semtex, a plastic explosive. I quickly received a notice that my e-mail address was being forwarded to the Department of Homeland Security. Yes, people are watching.

    1. Well, this is pretty transparent. My concern is when they DON'T tell you.

  7. I do not care what Homeland Secuirity knows about me or not. I am too old and too poor and too mellow to be of any interest. Blogger is free, so I cannot complain. If I paid I would have a leg to stand on.

    1. I for one am very happy that blogger is free. It's just a little creepy that people are watching as in Stephen's case.

  8. I guess memory work is good brain training, but I'm never sure of its merits. I did not have trouble with it in the early days, but my memory is not good now, so I save it for the important things.
    Being watched doesn't bother me.

    1. I did assign memory work in my early years of teaching. I felt guilty about it but it was required.

  9. I really disliked memory work...not my cup of tea. I had a foreign blog appear on my reading list too. I ignored it and it went away:)

    1. This one seems to have disappeared before I got around to changing things, I'm going to change as you never know what might be able to show up.

I too have a bad memory. But I am working on it. Somewhat!
My father in law remembers every thing. Even all these cowboy poetry stuff. People request him at readings all the time! Like I said, I am working on trying to remember!

  12. Psalm 23 does indeed have green pastures in it. I did the same memory work too and I liked it - " To be or not to be - that is the question......." "In faith I do not love thee with mine eyes, for they in thee a thousand errors note, but tis my heart that loves what they despise, who in despite of view is pleased to dote"....blah, blah, blah - WE had to memorize this passage from Will's Sonnet 141. Holy crap, do you suppose they used blah, blah, blah back then. ha,ha Have a good one Red :)

    1. To me it's amazing that you remember a sonnet like that. A great week end to you and I hope you get out on the bike.

  13. Yup, big brother blogger is watching us closely. Too closely...

I used to hate memorizing stuff for school, too. And we did a lot of that back then. Bleh...

  14. Glad the mystery blog is no longer appearing Red. And that was good of Blogger to respond so promptly. And as far as memory goes, I sometimes forget something I learned only 5 minutes prior.

    1. Well, I forget stuff right away too, but I was thinking about the larger passages.

  15. I think Blogger (AKA Google) wants to know as much about us as possible so that they can throw those ads at us! I use adblock though, so I rarely see any of it.
I never have been able to memorize...to this day I don't know how I graduated high school, much less college.

    1. There certainly are many ways to trap us and then hurl the ads at us. I think there's a difference between remember and memorize. I got them mixed together in my post. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  16. Yes, since Blogger is owned by Google.. (as is my Android phone's operating system), they know plenty. I'm glad you were able to resolve your issue though.

  17. Bible verses and poetry - sounds like my childhood as well.
I do remember the Psalm and 'quote the raven nevermore' and a bible verse from my grandparents wall.
I know the answer Red and I don't like it much.

  18. I forgot the most important poem I had to memorize and that was The Song of Hiawatha by Longfellow. I think of it whenever I stop by here. :)

  19. It's comforting to see so many others share my memory problem. I remember one line from a poem that I learned at school - and have spent the past 50 odd years trying to remember what the poem was. I always think it's a bit weird that I can't quote the 23 rd Psalm but if I have to sing it, I'm word perfect.

  20. They make big bucks tracking your data, and this is why blogspot is free! You have to take the good with the bad!
