A Little Sunshine Makes a Big Difference

I last posted about a 15- 20 cm(6 to 9 in) snowfall. A little more snow has come into my life. The last two mornings I've had 2 - 4 cm( 1 to 1 1/2 in) of new snow to shovel. It's been about minus 13 C(plus 10 F).  I was very comfortable as far as temperature was concerned.

This morning by the time I finished shovelling the sun was shining. It was very pleasant after four very dull days.

I went out at 1:00PM to take some pictures of a fine day and a little snow.

  2. The wishing well may be temporarily out of business, but this could be the best time for roaring business - people wishing for a little sunshine.
    Lovely pictures.

    1. Well, I've seen it worse. It's in the sun so it melts off quickly.

  4. Oh Red, amazing snow photos! It seems I"ll have to send a little Australian summer warmth your way as well as to Scotland.
I'll catch up on the rest of your posts now :)

    1. Well, your kind to think of sending some warm weather, but winter is a being that has to be allowed to be in control. Don't mess with winter or it can really get mad!

  7. Have you ever found yourself wondering "what is the point of snow?" Now rain I can understand, we all need water, but inch upon inch of the frozen stuff is taking things a bit too far

    1. I never wonder about the point of snow. snow is insulation so that the ground doesn't freeze 20 feet deep and become perma frost. Plants have adapted to the snow so that they survive, Sorry to be so serious about your snow question.

    1. Nothing like snow in the country. You don't get the sand and dirt flying around.

  13. Hi Ya Red - Nice Sunny Post and yes, you probably have the cleanest driveway on your street. :)
We dawned our outdoor gear yesterday and set aboot raking the roof of the house, barn and mini barn. I did the two small barns and then helped with the big roof. The snow on the back roof of the house was well above my waist. You know what - its the most interesting sound when snow comes sliding down the roof once encouraged with a snow rake. There is almost a gutterable rumble and then A MIGHTY BIG THUMP when it hits the ground. It is a sound that amazes me and captures my attention. I don't know that you have ever heard the sound of moving snow like that - perhaps you have, but its really sharpens your ears. Have a wonderful day.

    1. I have a beter story than yours. If you are in the back country in the rockies after fresh snow you hear the big whumps all the time. Snow slides happen all around you. You have to really know where you're going or you could be part of the whump!

  16. Did I tell you? They had to chop off our wishing well to get to the pipes. I'm so sad! Happy to have water,t hough. The snowblower is frozen, I have to get my hairdryer on it.
The sun would be welcome at this point! Mind you, out east they've had 120cm of snow. I should get going...

  18. My dear email friend she is suffering with the amounts of snow in N.B. I can just imagine. her home is on farm land and her basement I have not any idea if she can clear it away the snow sometimes it leaks to the basement. You did a great job. So clean and the snow is pretty and after a clean up you feel you have accomplished something.

    1. I don't mind shovelling snow as long as we don't get too much. the Maritimes have had too much snow.

  20. Shovelling snow is a dangerous job for people with circulation and heart problems. I don’t mind at all that I live in a rural environment where snow is left to melt naturally and the roads are cleared by the council.

    1. Thanks. Our snow tends to be fairly dry. We seldom get wet slushy snow.

  23. When we get snow, it is wet and heavy, very hard to shovel. But it usually melts fast.
It's fun to see what weather is like in different parts of our continent.

  24. It's beautiful but I'm glad that I don't have that problem or inconvenience.

  25. Your pictures look pretty. We haven't had a 'real' snow yet, two or three inches one time, an inch another and it was so wet it disappeared quickly. Do you have one of those snow machines that make the work easier for you. Your driveway looks clear but I was wondering that would be hard shoveling heavy snow.
