September is a Popular Month

I am always intrigued by the number of special days that have been designated. Each month is claimed by number causes and celebrations.

Who says September is National Chicken Month? What does National Chicken Month mean? Who approves or disapproves of such a status? Where can I go to get a month approved as National Blogging Month? What good would it do to have a National blogging Month?

I'm sure others have more questions about naming a month for some issue or cause. You rarely know about a special month unless you look it up on the internet.

So as well as being National Chicken Month there are others for September. ..National Potato Month, National Rice Month, National Cholesterol Month, National All American Breakfast Month. So that's a lot of celebration for one month. Trust me, if you look a bit you'll find others.

Now some months are designated to promote a worthy cause. That's okay.

Now the month celebration is bad enough but days are taken too. Some days have several designations. Try National Cheese Pizza Day, National Teddy Bear Day, National Play doh Day, National Chocolate Milkshake Day. There are probably many more. Do we need these special days?

If I celebrated all these days I would be exhausted.

Have you ever participated in one of these weird little days?

Would you like to designate a month for something special and what would it be?

I think it's a bit much. I'd like a plain old month that doesn't mix me up.

  1. I didn't know September 13th this year was Grandparents Day until I got a handmade card from my granddaughter. I did rather love that. :-)

But national chicken month? Do they have Pork Month and Beef month? How about Fish Month? I wonder why it's a whole month.

    1. I thing everything you could think of would have a month. But Grandparents day would be awesome. I'll have to check with my grandchildren and see why I wasn't noticed.

  2. Occasionally I will get clued in to one of these days via Facebook, but usually I am totally unaware of them. I guess every day is special to someone, a birthday or an anniversary or some such thing. I really don't need these Marketing pronouncements.

    1. I read in my paper about these days or I would have never known the difference.

  3. I don't think we have them here.
I'll let the hens know it's chicken month and see if they would like an extra slug or worm.

  4. I think many of these designations are for economic promotional reasons. And I always have ignored such days.

  5. There are as many here too. I don't pay attention to it, I hear it sometimes on the radio but what are they supposed you do with it?

    1. Thankyou! We could sit around and come up with all kinds of wacky reasons for a special month.

    1. So these months are not a big deal with you!

  8. I have to admit that I check my calendar every once in a while (rare) to see what different celebrations might be there. I do not celebrate any that you mentioned. Usually relays, and runs/walks for charity - that kind of thing. Yes, I think there should be a National Lilly Day and all people named Lilly should be spoiled all day and taken out for nice celebration supper. :)

  9. I had to laugh at this post, Red. I agree with you and think it's mostly designed to make us buy stuff we wouldn't buy otherwise. But here in Bellingham we are having Bellingham Beer Week! Now I can get behind that. :-)

  10. I once participated in National Donut Day by eating a donut. Does that count?

  11. I generally have no idea about these days until after the fact, and often think they're put together by a Marketing Chimp.

  12. This was a fun post! So many unusual celebrations. I don't think I've participated in any of them; at least I can't think of any.

    1. You're probably right about not observing them or even knowing about them.

  13. There must be a National Firefighter's Day right? I would vote for that one.

  14. yeah, i'm not much of a fan of these special designations either. every day should be a 'celebrate life' day and that'd be enough of a designation for me. :)

  15. Too much for me...everyone wants to promote their stuff:)

  16. I have enough trouble keeping up with all the birthdays and anniversaries each month, let alone Chicken Month, etc. I would celebrate Chocolate Month, just because it would be a very good excuse to have chocolate every day for a month!

  17. I though National Secretary Day was a worthwhile recognition...
