Ya Gotta Let the Dog Out

A few months ago I was ordered to undergo one of those invasive procedures where they "just have a look inside." They phoned and gave me a 12:30 PM appointment. I tried to tell them that this wasn't an appropriate time. They had little time for me and abruptly told me the doctor was going away and this was my only chance for an appointment. What else could a poor boy do?

Don't worry. I'm still on my topic.

Some of you know the drill for this test. Ya gotta empty your whole digestive system of every microscopic particle. The way they do this is start you at 2:00PM the previous day with a marvelous drink. You have to drink two liters in a little more than an hour. After that, the contents of your digestive system make a hasty exit. You don't feel at all well at this time. For supper you can have liquids. You have to get up at 4:00 AM and drink another two liters of the vile stuff in an hour and a half. No more food after that.

So after this punishment you feel absolutely miserable and you haven't eaten since lunch time the previous day.

So like a good boy I arrive at the institution at 10:30 AM for preparation of the procedure. This goes tickety - boo and I'm in the bed with all the necessary piping in place.

I haven't forgotten about the dog!

Around 12:15 PM I'm rolled into the "room" and placed on the viewing table and the remainder of the preparations are made. You remember I protested the 12:30 PM appointment.

I was ready at exactly 12:30 PM as there was a big clock on the wall I could watch.

At 12:30 PM they told me the doctor wasn't there at that time. The told me "The doctor had gone home to let the dog out!"

They thought and I thought it would only be a few minutes. When did the doctor come back? At exactly 1:00 PM!

Well we got the job done. So after a miserable procedure in the first place I was finally able to get home by about 2:30  PM for a bit of lunch. And I didn't have coffee for more than 24 hours!

Well what do you do? By this time I was just happy to have the procedure over with and be out of there.

It will be a long time before I forget about the doctor who had to let his dog out.

    1. No matter how you cut it it's not pleasant. I just put my head down and don't think about it.

  4. LOL. It is funny to the reader but not to you the patient I'm sure. It is also ironic as the dog probably needed to do his business too. I'm glad you were okay after all that and I hope you had a good lunch albeit belated.

    1. You do have a sense of humor. Humor is the only way you can put up with this stuff.

  5. I never heard of a doctor doing that

  6. I'm surprised the staff told you the truth! That is terrible. We had a procedure delayed, but our urologist had to do an emergency surgery for an ER patient, and all of us in the waiting room were happy to wait. sigh.

    1. I don't think they thought he would be that long. They kept me entertained with chit chat.

  7. This is such a ridiculous story to read, you had to wait for the doctor busy with his dog. Did you complain about it there?

  10. How awful! Lucky for the doctor, your being such a nice person. Of course, at that point there was not much you could do but wait there.

  11. You would think a doctor would have a neighbor or someone he could call for things like that! Good that it's over, for several years one would hope!

    1. I'm sure it's a first, but why does it have to happen to me???

  17. Oh Red you have the wired things happen to you. To let the Dog Out? With all the money Dr's have. He could not get a dog sitter. Well that is why Dr's or Specialist have lots of money. They do everything themselves. So they save the money and us guys pay the consequences of waiting. I had a test. I waited till 6 o'clock. And he never let the dog out. Mine I bet went out for a buffet lunch who knows.

  18. Hi Red, The Docs have ALL the power, or so it seems. No doubt you're glad that's all over. Hope your results are all OK.

  19. I would be furious by the time hearing about the dog being let out. I am a"hangry" (hungry-angry) person plus...like you, I am punctual and if somebody isn't - well that really boils my blood.

You were so patient. But at least it's over now and hope everything's alright with the test.

  20. You are a very nice and patient fellow, Red. That doctor is lucky. Well... I guess the dog had to go. I'm sorry you had to go through that procedure. It really is the prep part that's ghastly. I'm glad it's over for you. Art is thrilled because they told him that he doesn't have to get another one since he's over 70.

  21. Oh, brother! I'm surprised they admitted where the doctor had gone. Going without coffee would definitely be the most miserable part of that whole experience for me.
