Happy New Year

It's 7:00 PM mountain standard time here.  It's early New Year's Eve. Some people are already in 2016 and some have much more time to go in their New Year's Eve. Some people mark New Year's Eve with great celebration and some, like me, pass it as most other evenings in my life. I've done it both ways. I've partied my face off and as I said I spend very quiet New Year's Eves.

Some people like to look back on 2015...the year in review. I'm not big on looking back at my own 2015. I don't really think about it. I am a current events junkie so I like to listen to a review of news events for the past year. In fact,I will listen to more than one review. (Ooh somebody just let a fire cracker go!) I like reviews to be separate as politics, sports , music...

Other people like to look ahead to 2016. What will 2016 bring them. What do they hope for in 2016. Some people are big on making resolutions for 2016. Some resolutions people share  can be very interesting. For myself, I'm not big on resolutions. I have enough trouble remembering my resolution let alone acting on it. I try to fool myself by saying I will make resolutions as the year goes by.

I admire those people who take a balanced approach and think about the happenings in the old year and look ahead to the New Year.

I do look back at one major New Year's Eve event in my life. 49 years ago tonight I had the first date with my wife. It was a blind date and, of course, we went to a large New Year's Eve party!

Whatever you do to mark the new year I hope you enjoy the evening. I hope you had a great 2015 and I wish you all the best for 2016.

  2. Wonderful to see the big, snowy white tree and read your thoughts about how you end one year and approach the other. I am not big on resolutions myself. I prefer setting a few goals and that is only to keep me moving forward with a bit of structure. Otherwise I lose track of time and look back and think why didn't I do this and that? When I set goals (written or unwritten) it helps me to appreciate whether I'm being realistic about what can be accomplished too. As a child nothing drove me battier (and still does) than a person who would say all the "big" things they were going to accomplish and in the end they would get nothing done. Some of it was procrastination, some just bad planning, etc. That probably explains why I like being pragmatic about how I approach things.

It was lovely to hear the story about you met your wife. May you have many more wonderful memories of New Year's to come. Happy New Year!

    1. I agree with you on setting goals. You probably set goals at any time of the year. All the best to you in 2016.

  3. Happy New Year! We don't do anything special. I did write a blog entry on a short review. It is funny I don't remember a lot about what happened through the year.

  4. Firecrackers are already going off here in Hawaii and it's only 6:15 PM! Good grief! I feel sorry for the poor dogs across the street who are tied up to the garage while the family go off to celebrate somewhere. It's a Chinese custom to shoot off fireworks and firecrackers here in Hawaii that everybody has adopted. It's not my favorite thing and it pollutes the air. Thank goodness for the tradewinds. Unfortunately Art suddenly came down with a terrible stomach ailment and is totally laid up in bed. Not a happy way to end the year. However, we're hoping he can start off the year feeling much better. Keeping our fingers crossed. We hope you're having a nice new year celebration and will have a fabulous year ahead!

    1. Our city sometimes puts on a large fireworks display but last night some neighbors were having fun. I hope Art recovers quickly and all the best to both of you for 2016.

  5. As I read this you are already into the new year, and most likely into your bed! We are at 10:45 and counting down. we went to see a 4:00 showing of the new Star Wars movie, then went out to dinner, and since then wehve seen sitting in our recliners in front of the TV, and with tablet and laptop at our fingertips. 8. I approach the event of a new year in a much similar way. I use it as a tool rather than a check off on a goal post.

  9. Happy New Year, Red! You seem like an old friend who says many things that I think, too. I was asleep when the firecrackers started to go off and woke me for a short time. Then I snuggled into my warm cover and went to sleep, hoping that I would awake this morning to find that we made it through without any awful events happening. Sending you my best wishes for another new year. :-)

  12. I live in the present and don't plan too far into the future, but at the end of each year, I enjoy looking back at the last 12 months to see what went on. And then I let go and move on.

What a lovely memory about the way you met your wife! Perhaps you'll share more about that story in a future post. I'm sure we'd all enjoy it!

Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to more great posts on your blog.

  14. Hi Red, I like your approach to New Years. Like you, I've seen both sides ... wild and mild ... and it seems the older I get, the milder it gets. Wishing you all the best in 2016.

  16. Happy New Year to you and your wife. It didn't take any reflection for me to know 2015 was one of my best years ever. I don't expect 2016 to compete. No resolutions, they have proved to be a waste of time for me. I make a wish instead - hope for contentment and happiness.

    1. I posted on this last year but I don't seem to be able to give you a link. Well, in those days everything went formal...suit and tie. I'd have to ask the micro manager about the kiss!

  18. That frosty tree is beautiful! I like quiet New Years Eves myself. This year someone had a big fireworks display across the water from us and we could sit on our porch and watch. That was a first for me.
