Never Let Old Guys on Scanners

Like a number of other bloggers I've been mumbling about digitalizing some of my old photos. My kids are 43 and 45 and they don't have photos of their childhood and growing up.

So  I have a plan. I'm starting with the Micro Manager's and my photos when we were growing up and before we had kids. You know, the photos your kids like to laugh at! I picked 25 of my photos that show the highlights of my life before children.

I have to gain some more experience in scanning. I know it can get better, but I'm not looking for professional stuff. I just want to pass things on to those for which it has meaning.

So yesterday was the first day. Of course, I found some classics and this is where I say, "Keep the old guys away from scanners."

So you know you're going to see a couple of momentous historical photos.

The obligatory first day of school photo. My brother is starting gr. one and I'm starting gr. two.

You see why old guys should be kept off scanners.  I promise I'll improve.

    1. I don't know what tiffin boxes are but these were little tin boxes that we put our lunch in.

  3. That is a wonderful idea. I am 48 and both of my parents have been passed away for 22 years. I regret not having them to tell me stuff now. I feel like your children will really appreciate it one day!

    1. I think it's common for people to not ask parents about their lives. I was 68 when Dad died and I wished I'd asked him much more.

  4. Looking good Red and I love all the old photos, remember to mark them on the back who where why and when! You were a cutie! Sometimes the photos especially single ones tend to curl so weigh them down with something for a better scan. I scan at 300 d pi and that works for me...professionals scan at 600 dpi:)

    1. Most of our photos had info on the back. I did better today on the scanning.

  5. I've only used scanners for photos a couple of times, and they didn't seem to work! Fun shots, Red!

    1. You need a good scanner and then it takes some fooling around to get it right .

    1. Early color photos don't copy very well as the color has faded badly. You never know. You might see more.

  7. Very nice. When I look at these old pictures, I realize that I feel I have more in common with the 1800s than the 2000s!

  8. How fun to have these old snaps. And thank you for sharing even if you haven't reached perfection at scanning yet. Your family will love them. It's funny, I was sorting old photos today and came across my first day of first grade photo, too. Can't wait to send it off to my kids.

    1. You can't do much with some photos. There were cheap cameras used which didn't take good quality photos.

  10. Hi Red, I'd say you did mighty well for your first scans. Thank goodness somebody took pictures back in the good ol' days!

  12. It is so great that we can scan them and instantly put them up. I had pants with suspenders but never bibs. My dad wore bibs most of his life. The photos show you taking good care of younger brother.

  13. Oh my goodness, these photos of you are priceless Red. I LOVE that you've shared these, thank you! And keep scanning, never mind not letting you near this bit of technology! :-)
