The Ugliness Of Political Name Calling.

Be it resolved that all politicians be prevented from name calling, and making any other untrue statements or depictions as in cartoons or photoshopping.

Okay that's a rather rambling pie in the sky kind of resolution.

I saw a cartoon on facebook that got me thinking about the issue of politicians slinging mud at each other.

Now at the risk of roiling up one of my "rellies"
I will describe what I saw.

The cartoon was produced around April 1. It showed our Prime Minister and April Fool written over him. This cartoon wasn't one of the more obnoxious ones but I thought , "How small does one have to be to create something insulting." Of course, the idea was to insult.

Political parties or their agents produce a steady stream of this crap. They put it out there and people copy it on their facebook page and in so doing the idea is promoted and distributed for free whether it is right or wrong. We are promoting this nonsense when we put it on our facebook page. If they didn't have free publicity there might be less negativity.

Now the defence for the cartoon is that the Prime Minister's party does the same thing and started it. That's may true, but it's not a reason to carry on. No political party should indulge in such immature behaviour. School boys use the same excuse to keep wailing on each other. "He hit me first!" You have to separate them and send them packing in opposite directions and they forget about it in a few seconds. It's too bad we could not separate our politicians and send them in different directions for them to cool off.

Just think how nice the world would be if we didn't have these buffoons calling each other names.
We might get something done in our country.

  1. And in our country. I have a rule about not sharing any political posters on Facebook anymore. I feel that I am responsible for any crap that takes place under my name. From experience I know how quickly the hateful comments are attracted. This presidential election season is especially awful. It's so discouraging for the future of our nation.

  2. Political mudslinging is abhorrent to me also. But what I've learned along the way is a lot of these people call names, attack one another in the public fora but in private they are "besties" or at least socialize and hobnob in the choicest of circles. It still doesn't make it right but it does make it a lot weirder.

  3. How very true Red. Name-calling just diminished respect for the name-caller.

    1. I wish our politicians could realize that name calling makes them look awful.

  4. Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power. P. J. O'Rourke

  5. Unification is what is needed. Name calling is a bit immature, but it seems to get a message to some about the negatives others like.I discarded those who only put political junk on their Facebooks. Keep your opinions to yourself I felt.

    1. I still think some serious changes need to be made to prevent disgusting behaviour. the problem is the idiots make the rules.

  6. Political mud-slinging certainly is tiresome. I wish they would stick to policies and aspirations, leaving personality issues for banal glossy magazines. However, I think an exception should be made for Donald Trump. That guy deserves more than a handful of mud in his face - perhaps a whole truckload. I despair for the USA when so many thousands view this self-obsessed oaf as a possible leader of their great nation.

    1. What every happened to reasoned debate of an issue? Good debate causes people to research the topic.

  7. You think you have it bad in Canada, just look to your neighbors to the south. It's disgraceful and I totally agree with you. They are supposed to be grownups. :-(

    1. I would rather not point fingers at my neighbors. Our previous Govt. played fast and loose with the truth.

  8. I totally agree with you! Young kids say "he/she started it". By the time we become adults, we should have outgrown that just like we've outgrown other childhood habits/behaviours. But some don't. And when someone behaves badly, we don't have to sink to their level. We should be better, do better, rise above that. And set a good example for our peers and for the younger generations.

  9. Some time ago I resolved to stop posting politics to Facebook. And for the most part, I've adhered to that pledge. I just think people get so much of it, they don't need to hear it from me!

  11. It requires maturity and many of those running for office have no maturity, wisdom or even intellectual knowledge. They just want the power/attention that comes with the job.

    1. One of our parties has employed some political strategists from your country. we booted them in the last election.

    2. And that was a boot well deserved! The thing about our political strategists is that they have forgotten the concept of compromise.

  15. i could be wrong, but it has seemed obama has attempted to take mostly the high road when dealing with critics and opponents. he gives his zingers but mostly trying for a humorous touch. still, he gets chewed up and spit out in dc regularly. i hate the toxicity of politics.

  17. Pointing fingers at each other, all these nasty diatribes are appalling. Dreadful role models. Rather than make me want to vote for them, it does exactly the opposite. As for these nasty forwards I absolutely refuse to pass them on, I don't care which political party it is. I always hit the delete button. A great read, thank you Red.

  18. I thought that Bernie and Hillary would take the higher road unlike their Republican counterparts, but they've started down that road also... not as bad... but they're beginning to not be quite as dignified as I would like.
