eBoy's Lunch

Yesterday was the  eboy's lunch. eboys are a small group of teachers who taught together  at a school in the 70's. We were mostly in our 20's and left our rooky teaching years and become effective teachers. During that time we became good friends. We were in the same boat. We had little kids, were broke most of the time and loved to socialize together. We had a couple of older guys who were great mentors and also stayed friends with us.

We missed this lunch last year and the year before I could not attend. We all show a little aging since the last lunch. Our mentor was not able to attend due to his health condition. He's just not able to cope being out anymore.

So yesterday there was talk of colleagues we've lost recently. Then talk of colleagues and sharing news. And retired teachers always have to talk about former students.

Lunch was great but the visit was awesome. We had an awesome relationship when we were young and it's still the same although we don't see each other very much. Man, did we have energy in those days.

The photos are from 2013 so yes we've aged over the 3 years. Don't look for me. I was the photographer.

  1. I've noticed when one reaches a certain age, the years not only fly by, but bits and pieces of our body parts seem to deteriorate faster, too. Maybe it's the speed, but there doesn't seem to be any way to slow down except one I'm not willing to take right now. :-)

  4. My husband grew up in a home for boys. Each year when the school they attended had their reunion the 'boys' from the home would all book rooms at the same place and have their own reunion as well as taking part in the school reunion. It was a lot of fun. Not many of those folks left these days. We were in Texas then and now we're in Oregon so we no longer attend. Sounds like a fun day for you.

  5. I would fit into that group very well. Started teaching in 72. Still subbing off and on but don't have a lot of past friends around anymore. The women teachers are still getting together once a month.

  8. How nice that you have stayed in touch, and that you had each others' friendship during those tough early years of teaching. I am going back to Minnesota this week and will get together with my dear old teaching friends also.

  10. It's great that you all stay in touch! Why are you called "eboys"? Does the "e" stand for the name of the school or something?

    1. You're the only one who was curious enough to ask about the e. yes e was the first letter in the school name...Eastview!

  11. I am a little envious of you Red as I have instinctively cut away nearly all the chains that linked me to my teaching career. I can't explain it - it's just who I am.

    1. When we retire we certainly mix with different people. I see very few of my former colleagues even though we still live in the same area.

  12. That is nice to have contact with former colleagues. You used to spent so much time together when working, sometimes more than with your family.

  14. Hi Red, This is a cool post. It would be neat to get together with some of my old teaching buddies. It is now Thursday morning, May 5, and I just watched the news about the fire in Fort McMurray. Just a tragic situation. Thought about you being there in Red Deer. The fire is a long way north of you. How are the conditions in your area? Is is super dry in Red Deer? I have to wonder if this is all a part of Global Warming. Anyway, take good care up there in Alberta.

  15. Yes, I know the feeling to connect with old friends and co-workers and previous neighbours. it sure is a good feeling and yes, the changes come with that. Keep doing what you do Red, and you'll be around those gatherings a long while yet.

  18. We have a group of 9 teachers that always met together for lunch every month even after we retired. I get together with them every time I return to Chicago. I think many teachers have a special bond. Next time, you should have someone else take a photo so you can be in it too. :- )

  20. Beautiful that you all have come close to each other and be together and chit, chat.

Today I met a school teacher who taught many students Music and piano lessons where I live in Haliburton. He looked after his Mom till she passed in her home. Never got married. He now has her house as he was the only child. My friend today asked if I would like Bill to pick us up for prayer and hear Bill play the organ. He sang beautiful and prayed the organ. This was my first time out to the church. I met a lady who had cancer of the throat and she hugged me. Said welcome. She surprised me she even talked. I met a lady. And would you believe her name is Carol Ann. It was different church then I. It was like a Catholic. I am a Baptist. The lady who lead it was a Priest. I do not have a priest. I have a Pastor. Anyway. It was different. A old church . All shiny wood. So was nice to meet this gentleman who was a teacher.
