WHY DO I LIKE THIS PHOTO

On the weekend we were out bird watching in a 300 acre area of old growth forest, recovering quarries and open fields. It was a warm fall afternoon. It turned nasty the next day.

It was an afternoon where I took quite a few photos. I was surprised when I looked at one photo and immediately liked it. I'm not a horse person so it's not because of the horses. It's one of those photos where you take a quick look and click. So I didn't think about anything.

So I'm still asking myself what it is about my photo that makes me really like it.

      Do you have any ideas?

  1. It has great composition and subtle colours. It doesn't scream to be looked at but rather says i will be here when you are ready

  2. I like the way it makes me think of what those riders might be saying to each other. They seem to be keeping their distance so the image is intriguing.

  3. Open field, horses, riders and a beautiful blue sky. Very nicely composed, the kind of photo I enjoy.

  5. I love the composition and hint of colors. I also love the layers - the brown and tans of the field, the white and gray of the bare trees, the green of the cedars and finally the soft blues and grays of the sky. The sky is amazing as it almost looks like it was painted. The horses give a point of interest but it is the background that pulls me in. Love it Red!

    1. I guess when I took the photo I was just thinking horses and when I got the photo I saw so much more.

  10. Perhaps the spirit of the riders having fun drew your interest.I like horses and find many poses that interest me, and often talk to a few. LOL The landscape is beautiful and the riders add good contrast.

  12. It is a story photo and has a great use of "negative space."

  13. I think it's the light casting out over everything that makes the shot.

  14. It's hard to say why any one photo resonates. I think the colors in this one are particularly nice!

  15. It's a great photo! Good composition, nice colours. And with people and animals in it, you have conveyed the size/ scale of the landscape. All good stuff!

    1. I never thought of the horses giving an indication of the space .

  16. As was previously mentioned, it follows the law of thirds, color is well balanced, colors soft and complimentary, and I especially like that the blue of the sky is repeated in the saddle blanket.

  17. The pale colouration is most pleasant - both in the sky and on the ground. The two riders are also still. It's a very peaceful picture. Nice one Red!

  19. The picture you like to me speaks volumes, color. Love it like you Red.
I do like horses not to ride but to me they are a magnificent animal.
They are so intelligent. I say that because members of my family grew up with them. They are never scared of them. The horses become bonded to there owners I see.
