.THE AIR WAS BLUE

Everyone knows I am the bumbling handyman. I do everything...plumbing, electricity, carpentry, mechanics and now a few computer do it your self projects.

You know that I recently got a new computer and set it up by myself instead of paying Staples $99.00. I only had one snafu and that was easily solved. I got all the stuff off the old computer. I found all my pictures.

Now my printer was just too old to use with windows 10. I finally bought a printer last week. I asked how difficult it would be to set up compared to the computer . They thought about the same difficulty. Okay . I'll go for it.

Well the second thing you do is put the cartridge in. So look at the picture and  try to find a door to open. I found one thing that looked like a door. It wouldn't open very far and there was no way a cartridge would go in. I phoned the store...three times . Not much help. Pictures didn't help as they used different printer photos than mine. I tried everything. Finally, I thought about what one of the kids said that he thought the door was on the front. I ran into some tape. In stripping the tape off something moved and ah ha there was the door. So in the printer cartridge went.

Next hook my printer to wi fi. Well there was a handy dandy disk. The disk didn't take me very far and all it would say is that it couldn't find my machine.

Okay phone Shaw, the Internet provider. They sent me to a Brother's support site with live chat.

Alright. The first guy I spend an hour with. Things went  round and round but my printer didn't get hooked to wi fi. I try another Brother's chat person. same frustrating run around and they give up on me. Third Brother's person. Round and round but it didn't end up in the place they said I should get to. So they said we'll arrange a call back.

I got thinking that I should try the printer. I did and great balls of fire it printed. I tried my ipad and it printed from my ipad.

Now this is when the smoke came out of my ears. I spent so much frustrating time and all the time it was done. Was I some upset. Words flew.  Not very nice ones.

Why can't directions be made in a simple logical pattern.

So this project was just a little more than I bargained for. But I have a good printer!

    I'm still comin' down.

  1. I feel your pain Red. I had the darnedest time getting our current printer to work. Finally, after several phone calls, somebody told me to do what you did. Just try to print something. Apparently, our printers are what they call "plug and play." Who knew?

    1. If I'd have used a cord it would have been easier. I wanted wireless.

  2. You just explained why I don't like reading instructions that come with these things. I try everything intuitively first. Then I may read instructions. If things still don't work, I call my brother, ha ha. He always gets things going.

    1. The manual has 6 different printers. What a mix up.

  3. I am surprised they didn't suggest trying to print. I can usually find a YouTube video showing me how to hook things up. Have you ever done that? :-)

    1. I use videos but the only thing I can find is a video to take the stuff out of the box.

  4. How frustrating! But at least it's working now.

  5. Oh, you poor thing. I'm so sorry. I do all the techie stuff around here, as the air would, indeed, be blue!

  6. After all that, I imagine you would have like to banish those Brothers from the family!
I'm deeply impressed by your patience.

  7. Hi Red, This post makes my day. It's so good to see I'm not the only one who has this kind of stuff happen. Glad to hear it all turned out OK in the end.

    1. I don't think many people want to pay $99.00 for setting this up.

  8. I usually don't like to deal with "help" on the phone because they really don't help, they just add confusion to the issue. Very frustrating for you, I'm sure but you can print now. YAY!
Enjoy the weekend Red, you deserve it!

  9. I might be inclined to get someone else to do the set up for me!

  10. I feel your pain. This is exactly why I didn't want to call our ISP people when our computer was slow. I figured I'd get information that was unhelpful, redundant, obvious, or get the runaround. Our son is so much easier to work with! But still, you did learn some more valuable skills, didn't you? Can't put a price on that. Maybe :)

  12. I'm laughing

I'm laughing, but I understand completely. At the moment I am looking at a quite new printer here on my desk that has decided it doesn't want to print. It will copy, but printing? Naw. Tom has been round and round with it. I'm ready to toss it and start over. I want my sweet little Canon back that did just what I wanted it to do, until one day it didn't. :-(

  14. I get called upon to sort computer problems because I've been involved with computers for decades. However I have been an Apple user for eight years so it's becoming more and more difficult for me to deal with the detail of Windows machines. The main problem I find is that people can rarely tell me exactly what the problem is in computer language that I can understand so I often have to work from first principles.

    1. So that's my problem. People can't understand what my problem is. The ipad has been a struggle but it's getting easier to use.

  15. We survived doing that with a new printer and a scanner printer for me. I haven’t used my new scanner for a while so I will have to relearn how to do that again. The downloading of the printer itself irritates me but I guess it is one more cd that doesn’t go to the landfill. I use to be a tech director for our public school and technology has completely changed to all new versions and processes.

  17. I can see this happening at my house!

Our printer was a dream to set up and has been n othing but a problem ever since. I suspect printers are the bane of most people's lives

  19. Good for you, Red! You got it working. I didn't even know you could print from your iPad. Then again, my printer is super old.
