THAT'S ENOUGH ABOUT ME

Every once in a while I have to give my head a shake and say I'm writing too much about myself. I prefer to write about other people, things and places.

However , some topics keep giving and giving. (I think I invented that saying!)

Now on Mar. 14 I wrote about how I fell off my back step in the dark. Now my detailed assessment of damage was that there was a small area bruise right on the hip joint. So I joyfully thought that in seven or so days the discomfort will go away and I'll be back to normal.

Now it's difficult to check your own backside. For me it's just not possible.

Now at about day 10 I could feel that down the outside of my leg from the hip joint to the knee joint was pretty tender when something touched it. This went on until I took a wee peak and saw bruising from the hip to the knee. Then I got the mirror and saw that the back of my leg from the hip to the knee was one big bruise.

So other than being a surprise it's okay and will take it's time to clear up. So I have a couple of photos that show the extent of the bruising.

These photos show the back of my leg. The dark spot at the bottom is behind my knee.

Now I also discovered that taking selfies of your backside is more complicated than I thought. Anybody want to try it?

  1. I think I'll take pass on backside photos. Too funny. Your bruising looks so painful! I'm hoping you feel 100% very soon.

  2. Hey, may we could start a regular feature called "Blogger Backsides"!!

That bruising is quite extensive. It sheds new light on how hard you fell. I hope it clears up quickly and becomes less tender.

    1. I checked when I fell but didn't see anything. Maybe I should have taken a picture.

  3. Oh my goodness! I was concerned about that fall you took. I wonder if you should have gotten an xray to check for fractures? I do know the older I get the worse I bruise. Actually, doesn't it seem like a lot of things get worse the older we get? As far as taking selfies go I don't like to take them of my face so I sure don't want to try the backside! ; ) Hope you heal up soon Red!

  4. Good idea to take 'selfies' of the bruises for reference (and not easy to get the 'back' of any body part.

When I fell on my face and had facial swelling, bleeding from cuts, black eyes (purple eyes?) and a swollen nose, scrapes and lots more bruises on other body parts that hit the cement as well (fell like a tree, whomp and down) I took lots of pictures (love a phone camera) for reference on the slow healing process. I watch my feet and where I am going and think about keeping upright and safe way more than I ever have before, with good reason.

Hope you are feeling less pain, have a flashlight attached to your keys, have a railing to hold on to (or at least plan to have a railing...) and that you are healing more each day.

    Joy

    1. One of the tough things about a fall is to get your confidence back again.

  8. Ouch! I took a tumble in our bathtub/shower a couple of years ago -- grabbed for the soap dish and pulled it right out of the wall -- and suffered a bruise along my side that took a couple of months to go away. That taught me to be careful, now that I'm getting older. We even installed a grab bar in our bathtub. So all I can say is, if it doesn't start getting better go see a doctor. And ... be careful!

    1. For a rough old guy like me it's tough to be careful.

  9. You really did a number on yourself. And your selfie pictures aren't so bad. And by the way, Red, this is your blog, so why wouldn't you be writing about yourself in it? I enjoy hearing about your life, other than when you injure yourself so badly. :-)

    1. Yes, I'm fortunate that there wasn't something worse. When I write , I think about an audience. Private writing would be to a journal.

  10. Yikes! Did you go to the doctor? Maybe you should get it checked out, although you're probably already on your way to healing by now.

    1. No , I'm okay. the bruising is from the spread of material from broken blood vessels.

    1. Not much discomfort with this. the initial fall was pretty sore.

  12. My rear end isn't a pretty sight!
I always take photos of wounds and scars, though. Even hubby's 8 incisions after his prostate cancer surgery. It's important to be able to tell if something is actually getting better, looking better or worse.

  15. Wow, those bruises are impressive. And good job taking photos of your back side. I haven't had the necessity of trying that yet.

  20. No thanks. Though the extent of the bruises convinces me I've escaped fairly luckily from several bike crashes and falls down the basement steps....

  21. Ouch Red! It's been a couple of days since you posted this, so I hope you've seen some improvement. It seems that the older we get, the more we bruise. I bruise a lot...

  22. Hi Red, Dang, those pics do convey the pain. I think I will pass on trying to get the back-side selfies. : - ) Hope you are feeling better each day and the bruising is going away.
