COOL OR CRAZY !

Yesterday afternoon I went ice skating! Now you can make your own decision if this was crazy or cool.

My regular readers know that I skate once a week from the beginning of Sept. to the end of April.

The skate yesterday was a lucky freebie. They are putting the ice in the arena and wanted people to  skate on the first layer of ice  before they put on the next layer.

I had a light fleece over my tee shirt and I was sweating. The ice level temperature was probably about 40 F. Coming out of the arena to the hot dry sun was most unpleasant.

So I was cool while in the arena for an hour and a half. Since the ice was very rough I might have been a little crazy to skate on it.

So I hope this cools you off a bit.

I didn't get photos yesterday so these photos are from other years. So here are some of our stars.

  1. Cool! Unless the ice was so rough it was dangerous. September will be here before we know it. This summer sure went by fast.

  7. I think it's very cool! Skating is fun year round. I'm going to push my husband for us to start skating this year. We haven't done it in ages and I think it'll be a lot of fun and great exercise!

    1. Yes, by all means , get out and skate. Look for a skating group and there should be a good social aspect to it. the people make things fun.

  8. I would love to walk into an ice arena and feel the cool air, but skating on rough ice, well I do think that was a bit on the crazy side. But good for you, Red! :-)

  9. I think it’s so awesome that you can do this. I have no sense of balance. I tried ice skating in Illinois when I was younger and couldn’t stay on my feet. If I did it now, I’m likely to break my other arm. Good for you for getting more exercise and staying cool while doing it.

  10. Skating has always been "crazy" for me though my parents loved it and I grew up in St. Paul the hockey capitol of Minnesota. My dad attributed my disdain for the activity to my "weak ankles." :)

    1. Well, modern day skates have all the support you need for ankles.

  11. How fun!! What a great hobby/exercise to have. My sister was a champion ice skater in the 60's. I never took up that sport. But it must be so much fun.

  13. What a neat thing to be able to do in mid-summer! Why did they want people to skate on the first layer - does it make the next layer settle better or something like that?

  14. Since you didn’t fall and break anything I guess it was a cool experience.

  19. It is so hot here that I'd just lay on the ice. Plus, I have to admit that I've never tried ice skating even once. Maybe someday.

  21. Hello, I would have liked skating on smooth ice, not the rough. We have an indoor ice skating rink nearby. Great photos of your friends. Enjoy your day and weekend ahead.
