A DECISION IS FINALLY MADE

A while ago I wrote about getting a pair of hearing aides. I didn't tell you that I took them back. Most hearing aid places have a policy that you try the hearing aid for a period of time...some up to 90 days. After about three weeks I decided not to buy the set of hearing aides. The customer service at the business was absolutely terrible. Then I decided that the hearing aides were junk and service would be hard to come by.

So because we were busy it took a while to get back on the hearing aide trail. We finally decided to try Connect Hearing. What a great business! They gave information that you could understand. They tried very hard to give you the best experience possible. I now have hearing aides to try for 12 days. I know already that I will buy them. The first time I went out in the yard I heard chipping sparrows. The sparrows have been there all the time. I just couldn't hear them.

The hearing aides I'm getting will cost much more money. They are from a highly rated brand.

Now the previous hearing aides were from Costco. They have a very good price for their brand. I believe Costco gets all the old brands that haven't sold and puts their name on them. The hearing aides you buy are not the latest models. You are getting an older technology.

Things are changing very quickly with technology . It's important to get the latest.

I have a second level hearing aide. It will cut out some of the back ground noise. But it doesn't have all the bells and whistles to let you adjust TV volume and phones. I don't watch TV and I don't have a phone so I don't need those features.

So if you're buying hearing aides , do your home work. There's a tremendous difference out there. Each hearing aid business has a different gimmick. As usual , some professionals are much better than others so look around until you're satisfied.

  1. These days one really must do their homework before buying anything as they become outdated so quickly or don't quite meet all your needs into the near future. Glad you made a decision on your hearing aides. It's most important to be able to get service after purchase.

  3. Art was able to get his hearing aids through the military for a reduced price which was great. He has a Starkey which he says is working great. I KNOW when he's not using the hearing aids because I get a lot of "What?" Tsk! He's very glad I pushed him into getting them. Actually he was willing to get his hearing tested because I said we would both be tested and he felt I was hard of hearing. Tsk! My hearing is fine.

    1. There's quite a bit of help to get hearing aides. We have something called Aides to daily living where the government helps us. Insurance also kicks in.

  4. I am so happy for you to hear you found one you like and from a company that is easier to work with as well. I still have a letter my grandmother wrote me after she first got her hearing aide. She was telling me how wonderful it was to hear the rain again. I bet it was very special for you to hear the birds again!

  5. Much better to pay a lot for something you are happy to use than to pay less for something you leave in a drawer.
I hope they go well for you

  8. Hello, my hubby will only wear one type of hearing aid. He has had a hearing loss since he was young. I hope you find ones you will like.

  9. My sister uses hearing aids, but so far I don't need them, although I do have some hearing loss. I can still hear the birds and the neighbor's TV. :-)

    1. Yes, take time and really try things. Most hearing aide people are very well trained and most helpful.

  11. Dad's experience with Beltone Hearing aids was awful and they have been in the business a long time. His current hearing aids come from Hearwell. Such a difference when a person can hear properly both for themselves and others .

  14. My husband has almost free ($50) top of the line hearing aids from the VA. He was only in the Army for 2 years (drafted). If you are a veteran check out this wonderful benefit. He also is given new ones every few years. This will save you thousands of dollars!

  21. Excellent advice! It's good to hear that you were able to get a good company who had the hearing aids you needed. My hearing is not that great and I think this for me is in the not too distant future. Thanks Red!
