BIRTHDAY SOUP!

Yesterday was my birthday. Birthdays are special. We get older! But we also celebrate and there are traditions for marking the passing of another year.

Well, yesterday I just happened to be making soup. Since I haven't figured out how to store carrots, I try to use them up by making carrot soup. So the first day of making carrot soup happened to be my birthday. I'm okay with carrot soup for my birthday.

Later on I had my candle with a Tim Horton's donut.

So some people like cake and ice cream and some people just like soup. I wonder what I'll have next year.

Soup and a donut could only be improved by adding garlic bread :)

  15. Happy birthday, Red. Soup and a donut sounds good to me too for a birthday celebration. You can freeze carrots by cutting them up and blanching them.

  17. I looked back to your post on October 21, 2019, and you said it was your 80th and you were giving up riding your bike. So this one is 82 and I'm wondering what you're giving up this year? :-) Happy Birthday Red.

    1. Thanks. Not giving up anything else! Those things had some risk for an 80 year old.

  19. Belated Happy Birthday.
Celebrations can be big of small. They can even involve soup, just to long as you celebrate. As we get older we need to celebrate more, even in small ways.

  23. Late, but wishing you a very happy birthday!! Carrot soup and a donut with a candle is different but fun and really special. I've never tasted carrot soup. Bet it puts a glow in your cheeks.

  26. Happiest of Birthdays. YOur smile says it all.

  27. Happy birthday! You look quite pleased with your soup, which (to my thinking) makes it a wonderful birthday meal.

I chop my carrots into 'coins', and then put them into freezer bags in sizes for Tim and I. I used to blanche them. Now I don't even bother with that. I pull them out a bag at a time and add them to toss them into soups, or skillet meals, or glaze them for Tim.

  28. Carrot soup is tasty and yours looks very good. And a donut to balance it out :) Belated Happy Birthday, Red!

  29. A belated Happy Birthday Red. You look well and happy and that's all anyone can ask for. Your soup looks and sounds delicious too.

  30. Happy belated birthday! I don't want much on my birthdays, mostly just being with my family. But if I had to settle for a bowl of carrot soup, I might rate the birthday a bit lower compared to one where I got, say a nice grilled piece of meat instead.

  31. Happy belated Birthday Red! Soup is good, I personally don't think it matters what we have on our birthdays, just as long as we enjoy it. My husband's traditional birthday treat is tapioca pudding. He's had it since he was a kid and I carried it on after we got married, still making it for him on his birthday.

  32. Oh dear - I am a week late to your birthday party Red. I hope I am not too late to supply my belated birthday greetings. Funnily enough my daughter was talking about Tim Horton's doughnut establishments just yesterday. Sounds like the do-nut may replace the maple leaf on the Canadian flag.

  34. Belated Happy 🎂 Birthday wishes to you Red and there's nothing "wrong" with your choice of foods. i can't even recall what foods we enjoyed on our birthdays this year, but know there wasn't any cake or ice cream (sigh).
