On June 30 I posted that the sun set just before 10:00 PM. I took a photo to show that it was light enough for the camera to pick up color.
Somebody suggested that I take a photo at about 9:55 PM to compare June and July. On July 30 it was still very bright and you could take a photo but not pick up color The sun set at 9:28 PM.
So today on Aug. 30 the sun sets at 8:26 PM
So from June 30 to July 30 the sun set 32 minutes later.
From July 30 to Aug. 30 the sun set 52 minutes earlier. We are losing daylight very quickly.
I walk most nights and I get home around 8:30 PM. I'm going to have to change my route as I'm getting home when it's just about dark.
So sunlight is deceasing rapidly a this time of year. We know what's coming.
Yes the light is retreating more every day, it seems faster leaving than coming in the Spring:(
ReplyDeleteI like your comment that it seems faster going than coming.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am noticing the shorter daylight here too. Happy September to you!
Take care, have a wonderful week!
September is a rather pleasant month. Not too many extremes.
DeleteIt never occurs to me to notice how quickly the days lengthen or shorten. I think it's because the change is slower at this latitude, Australians just don't seem to talk about these things the way you do in the Northern Hemisphere
ReplyDeleteThe tropical zone does not have much change.
DeleteThere are compensations to earlier dark nights, though it's sometimes difficult to see them.
ReplyDeleteNice one! I like this.
DeleteWhat's coming is my favorite time of the year, when the leaves turn colors and fall to start the cycle once again. I'm glad to have you and your posts, Red.
ReplyDeleteSeptember is a very pleasant month.
DeleteI'm just glad it's finally dark by the time I go to bed!
ReplyDeleteMorning light wakes me up.
DeleteFall is my favorite season and since I rarely go out after dinner, I don't worry about the time of the setting sun.
ReplyDeleteHi Ellen, I’m hoping Red won’t mind if I use this spot to thank you for your exceptionally kind comment on my blog. I usually like to thank those who comment on my blog by going to their blog to leave words of appreciation. I don’t see a blog for you, so I thought I would try this. Thank you Ellen and thank you Red! 😊
DeleteI love being out in the evening.
DeleteHi Red, I believe you will enjoy taking a look at this webpage …
ReplyDeletehttps://www.timeanddate.com/sun/canada/red-deer
You'll see all the sunrise, sunset, daylength, twilight information customized for Red Deer. Enjoy!
This wouldn't work for me. There is a site where you plug in your location and it gives you all the precise information. It's what I use. Thanks for the tip.
DeleteKeep walking, Red, until the blizzards begin, anyway. It's good exercise and will aid you when you get old. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean, "when you get old". I thought I was old ...very old!
DeleteWe sure do. It was pitch dark here at 8:30 tonight.
ReplyDeleteYou must be on about the same latitude as us.
DeleteI used to delight in playing outside during the summer holidays, until ten o'clock as the light was just about gone.
ReplyDeleteKids used to enjoy the whole evening. Now people won't let their kids out in the evening.
DeleteYou are farther north, so you are still getting light somewhat later than us but it’s diminishing quickly everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI keep telling myself I need to get out and walk during the evenings but it never happens, I prefer early mornings. Maybe I will make an effort to get out after dinner during September.
ReplyDeleteYes, don't remind me of what's coming!
ReplyDeleteIt's getting dark faster here too. At 8:45pm, it is dark.
ReplyDeleteI hate losing the light
ReplyDeleteI like that it's going to cool off, less daylight not so much :(
ReplyDeleteI like the changes!
