I am in the category known as very aged. So some of us have some common characteristics or you might say disabilities..
We have become very forgetful. We misplace things and can't find them. We don't know where we put things.. We do not interpret accurately. We get lost. So in general we have some disabilities.
I know that I have some disabilities. The disabilities don't really bother me but they do bother other people. Some of these disabilities an cause serious problems.
I make the breakfast around here. We each have a different breakfast. So I set the table. I'm not supposed to forget plates! Materials have to be made available. The Micro Manager has cold cereal. I always have hot cereal. I make the coffee. So there are a number of steps that have to be done but it's not rocket science.
How could anything go wrong? Well it did. Strange things can happen when you forget one thing.
I forgot to set the coffee pot in the coffee maker. In fact , I didn't notice this omission for quite some time. I didn't notice it until the basket was overflowing. Then I noticed the coffee pot sitting on the counter.
Well the coffee maker doesn't stop on a dime. So coffee and coffee grounds began running out of the coffee maker on to the counter and floor . So in a few seconds you have a huge mess. Such a big mess that you feel like running away and hiding,
So needless to say there was no coffee. Other things were also on hold.
And I was upset with myself and don't ask me about the micro manager's tantrum.
So I would strongly suggest that you always put the coffee pot in the coffee maker. I'm warning you, don't try this trick.

The coffee flowed a mighty stream,
ReplyDeleteA brewer’s blunder — a caffeine dream!
The counter swam, the floor did slick,
Red learned the rule: Don’t try this trick!
The Micro Manager’s look could roast,
More than beans or breakfast toast!
So heed this tale from Red’s café —
Check the pot before you press “Brew Today!”
Clever poem, John!
DeleteThank you, Ellen!
DeleteThanks John. The advice in poetry should make the directions stick.
DeleteOuch! I'm so sorry this happened. Art and I have our morning chores divided so I rarely touch the coffee maker. He's particular about how to make the coffee. I take care of the overnight oats, my mocha and mom's coffee. Then there's the medication to put out.... etc.
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of stuff to look after. I do all the breakfast from start to finish.
DeleteMy husband has done that a few times...it is an easy clean up!
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to miss putting the pot on the coffee maker. You just get distracted.
DeleteWe have done this, but our coffee machine is single cup, so it doesn't amount to much. I don't know why MM would get angry with something not deliberate, but I can see why you would be angry with yourself.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a mess and delayed breakfast.
DeleteWell, Mr. Red, I wasn't even an elderling yet, and prepared the timed coffee pot for the next morning, but forgot to put the water in the reservoir. Double roasting is one thing, but cracking the empty pot was not a good thing. I think they make them a litte different these days. Hang in there! Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to forget one step in the process when you're distracted.
DeleteIt is breathtaking how it takes only seconds to have a huge mess on your hands with certain things gone wrong, like dropping a mixing bowl of pancake batter, or spilling a sugary drink like juice, or . . . forgetting the coffee pot . . . I hope tomorrow morning goes more smoothly!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's only a short lapse of attention and things can get messy.
DeleteSorry, that sounds messy! My hubby is always loosing things, I have to run around the house to find his glasses and hearing aid. Take care, enjoy your day and have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI spend a good part of the day looking for glasses. My glasses work for a small distance and then they don't fit.
DeleteNot a good start to the day! It's easy to be distracted by something and then the whole routine is thrown out of kilter.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what happened here.
DeleteOh my. That was a tough one. I am usually the one who does such things here. I can relate!
ReplyDelete
Deletewe get busy and miss one step in the routine.
I can only imagine the mess that needed to be cleaned up! I am realizing I am experiencing disabilities! I wondered why the coffee maker was not working, no coffee was coming out. It took a bit to discover I forgot to put water in.
ReplyDeleteI've done that trick. It usually makes a different noise so I catch it.
DeleteIt's easy to get distracted by something and forget to finish what you were doing. It happens to all of us. At least the counter and coffee maker probably got a very good cleaning, Red. Don't fret about it! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's surprising how coffee grounds can spread.
DeleteI'm fortunate that I don't drink coffee.
ReplyDeleteOkay, other drinks have some preparation so you could miss a step.
DeleteOh no Red! Terrible omission. -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteIt was terrible but could be worse.
DeleteOh dear! I can see that happening.
ReplyDeleteYes and you can probably see other misteps too..
DeleteJust reading a cookbook by the acclaimed Phoenix pizza chef, Chris Bianco. His mantra: When you burn, you learn! 😄
ReplyDeleteYOU LEARN THAT YOU BURN YOUR FINGERS.
DeleteWe often have coffee emergencies here. I get up much earlier than Joe. He is responsible for doing coffee the day before at 4 pm. It goes so wrong so often!
ReplyDeleteOh Red. I have done this trick myself. Your advice reached me too late!
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I would have a tantrum if I did that!
ReplyDeleteI think I would prefer hot cereal, like you :)
Oh no, I've made a similar mess by not "locking" the coffee ground basket into place. It held all the coffee inside the basket until it overflowed.
ReplyDeleteDear Red to be honest here in our part of land such symptoms of aging arrive early because people have lost contact with natural environment and live in conjunction which provides less space to do ,and it makes them use their mind less and become forgetful earlier sadly.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine only how much hard was done to clean that mess
