I think I've told this story before but I like it so I'll tell it again.
My youngest brother was born on Feb. 14! I Remember when Mom brought him home and showed him to us. As 11, 14 and 15 year old farm boys we were surprisingly excited about this new brother. In no time we held him, fed him, changed diapers and rocked him to sleep. There was a competition as to who would look after him
He was born in a small local hospital about 20 miles from home. Dave grew up with big brothers and cousins as there was no one his age in our community.
Later on in life Dave became a nurse. You guessed it. He went back to nurse in the hospital he was born in. He looked up the records of his birth. There was nothing surprising. Everything was normal. Dave happened to be the head nurse in that little hospital. Dave spent the remainder of his career in health administration.
I am sorry that I never got to spend much of my life with him. I left home at age 17 when Dave was only 2 and a half years old.
So Happy birthday Dave.
No pictures here as I'm still working on getting my photos on to a memory stick,
Sweet to recall your little brother, born on Valentines Day, and how you big brothers welcomed him. Families often move apart, you left home at 17 so he was a wee little guy of 2 then.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's a sweet story. Happy Valentine's Day to you and Happy Birthday to Dave.
ReplyDeleteThat's a birth date never to be forgotten, like Christmas Day!
ReplyDeleteMy second son's due date was February 14th but he was born a week early on February 7th. I will be visiting him today up in northern Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Dave!!
A fifteen-year age difference is a pretty big gap!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely memory of your brother.
ReplyDeleteI've been travelling down memory lane as well and came across (I was looking for them), old photos of Red Deer in the 1970's.
That was a sweet Valentine for you big brothers.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day! Happy Birthday to your brother!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
He has to share his birthday with Valentine's day. Happy Birthday to Dave!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really cool story, and you should be very proud of him. My oldest brother is 11 years older than I, so he was in college when I have any memory of his existence. He still thinks I'm his charming little sister even though I caused all kinds of trouble. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteA terrific story! Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat an age gap!
ReplyDeleteThis was a great story and thank you, I'm very happy you told it again as I missed it the first time round.
ReplyDeleteNeat story. Glad you repeated it. Happy birthday Dave!
ReplyDeleteI can hear your affection for your little brother come through in your writing, still.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Dave!
