AN OLD BLOGGER

I started Hiawatha House in 2008. My daughter set up the basic account and I had to fill in and add the bells and whistles. My source of information  was Blogging for Dummies. This reference helped me set up the side bar. I fact the first few years I made many changes.

So  slowly over the years I didn't add anymore to the blog. You can see that I haven't changed the front page for many years. I don't know how. My son set up what I'm using. There  are other things that I haven't used and have forgotten how they are used.

I had to think  the other day how to manage my blog.

So from time to time bloggers pull a post from a long time ago. It makes for some interesting posts.

So I thought that I should look back and see if I could get some topics from a long time ago.

So  My first problem was how do I go back. I didn't know how to go back and find old posts. One day I accidentally clicked on archives. That did it . I could easily go back and look at older posts. I found that for the first 50 or so posts I didn't get comments. John Robinette from John's Island was the first  commenter. John is still a follower. I shamed my daughter into making comments hoping that her comment would bring in comments.

So the story for me is that  there are things I haven't used so I'm losing them.

  1. I use my blog archive often to find and copy old photos to use or store. I do know how to do things you mentioned, but there is still a lot I don't use or know how to do.

  2. Blogging opened up a wonderful new world to me and I haven't looked back since, tough there have been trials and tribulations of learning things. It's my favorite hobby, next to taking photos and a few other hobbies I have. None of my relatives or friends have made comments. I used to get one or two but then they just preferred reading my daily posts to see what we had been up to. We FaceTime mostly and they will mention a few things that they have read. It's a great personal history at times, for son to read in the years ahead. I actually started out with this in mind and then it took on a life of its own when I realized that I was open to wide-world web. That was fun! I actually have two blogs, one I keep private for immediate family only. Love visiting people and reading their stories, love making new friends on here and staying in touch with old ones. You write great posts and so I keep coming back to say hello.

  4. There were no or very few comments for me too. I played with my templates quite a bit in the early days with various colours and headers before I settled on my very plain current layout. It’s so vanilla that I never have to change it.

  7. You have been blogging as long as I have. I reverted probably 15 years of posts back to drafts. It is a good way to look up dates. I am sorry you lost that information. I love your snippets.

  10. Good luck with all this! I began in about 2008, as well! Great fun to look back, and find lost stories and photos.

  11. There are some components of Blogger that I never use, either. And like you, I've had the same blog homepage for a long time -- about 15 years, I think! We just get comfortable with what we know and stick with that. It's human nature.

  12. There have been lots of changes to the blogger platform since you started blogging. I think I prefer the 'old', lol. You've got some faithful followers.

  13. Dear Red my case of blogging isn’t different than yours
I started in 2009 ,my eldest son made it for me so I can share my thoughts. I was thrilled if such thing was possible even.
I am happy and grateful to join blog community because it gave me many sweet friends to exchange my thoughts with !
You too are lucky to have loving and supportive children. It’s great to learn how to make blogging better.being a housewife I find less time to do much about it but gradually I could figure out what tools on the side bar for what specific task .but honestly seems like it’s very little I could know

  14. I really enjoy your blog and hope you keep posting, Red. I'm only a commenter so I have no Blogger advice! You've done a great job all of these years!

  15. Kay of Musings: Gosh… so many of us started in 2008. I also use my archives often to figure out what I was doing at a certain time. It’s wonderful that so many of us have been together for such a long time and so many of us were educators too.
