APRIL FIRST AND NO SPRING

Okay, most of my followers have very nice spring weather. That's the way it should be for April 1.

Meanwhile I'm left looking forward to spring from winter. Today we had a high of minus 12 C (10 F). There was a blustery  wind. It was far from a spring day. It would even be classified as a nasty winter day.

Needless to say, very little winter snow has melted. The first snow melts off the roof. From my photo you can see that snow is still on the roof of all houses.

So at 7:30 Pm I was sadly looking out the window when I thought this is a good day to mark a very late spring.

So lots of snow on the roof.

I noticed the evening sun on a wall. When I looked at the photo I thought this would be good for one of those fence photos. You  can see three separate fences and a shadow of a fence.

SNICKERING ABOUT SPRING.

I admit it. I snicker about some of the comments that are being made about spring on some blogs right now. I'm not snickering at the blogger...just the perception of spring.

You see we have some very wide perceptions of spring. It depends on where you live.

I got thinking about this today because of the weather I have. Today we had a high of minus 12 C (14 F) and a 50 - 60 kph wind. It was a very, very nasty day. Now my calendar said Mar. 6 and the first day of spring isn't until Mar. 21. But what I snicker about is someone complaining about flowers being late and cold spring weather like 40 F. I snicker about people wanting warmer weather when they have 50 F. So when I have a nasty day it's funny when people want more than 50 F

Now on the other hand I think other bloggers might be snickering at this blogger for being in such terrible weather. What I have is winter weather and fairly frigid winter weather at that.

So here we are one is snickering about some great spring weather that somebody has and they want still better weather. Another is snickering because somebody's weather is just like winter.

Well right now I would like some warmer weather...maybe something above 0 C !

Spring comes with changes in light. At this time our daylight starts to increase rapidly. We will get warmer temperatures but most of all we will get more of the sun's energy per day so our plants will grow and develop rapidly. We will have nice spring weather , just at a different time of year.

I didn't get a photograph today but I found an older photo that shows what things look like.

Yesterday they snow plowed my street.

My path to the bird feeder looks like this.

CAN'T BUY ME SPRING

As if spring wasn't late enough here , we got 12 - 13 cm ( 5 in ) of snow last night and today.  To go with the snow we have cool temperatures for this Time of year. We had a high of minus 5 C (23 F)  The forecast low for tonight is minus 21 C. So usually I'm patient about seasons , but this is a little much.

Some years the snow has melted and my lilies behind the back step and the blue bells are up. I've checked this year and there's nothing.

One thing I do know is that the season will advance very quickly when the snow melts as we have long days and our plants do well with the long days. However, there are no above 0 C highs predicted for the next 7 days.

So my photos are very dull to show the cloudy snowy day we have.

My World is White.

We are getting a super spring storm in Alberta today. We've had snow, blowing snow and it's about minus 5 C(plus 22 F). It's supposed to clear out tonight.

There was a major traffic pile up just south of Edmonton with 20 vehicles ...many of them semis.

Sunrise today was at 7:32 and sunset is at 7:51. That's about 12 hours and 19 minutes with the sun shining.

At this time of year we can very quickly get warm temperatures to the high teens. That means that the snow can disappear rapidly. Most people are hoping that happens very soon.

I'm being a softy and I took this out the window

The air is full of snow

Dull and poor visibility

Spring Has Sorta Come

When I started Hiawatha House I did not intend to write very much about weather. This will be my eighth post this month about weather. I've joked about spring coming. I've whined about lots of snow. There's been lots to post about weather for the month of March. It's not been normal weather. It's just been awful!

We have now had two days of temperatures above freezing. Yesterday it got to plus 2 C (35 F) Yippee!! Today it got to plus 7 C (43 F) so there was some snow melting. Alas, tomorrow it will be cooler and won't be above freezing and maybe some snow!!

This March we have had about 30 cm (12 in ) of snow. It's been cloudy for days on end. That's how we got the 30 cm of snow. It's been quite cold with lows of around minus 15 C and highs of 7 C. We've had wind day after day and blowing snow. This is normal winter weather. We can get warm weather in March and many times our snow totally disappears by mid March. Last year and many other years I was riding my bicycle by mid March as the roads were dry. I bravely posted a few weeks ago that I had skied my last ski on winter snow. I was wrong. We still had winter skiing conditions on Sunday Mar. 27.

Spring will be interesting and messy. There is lots of snow to melt. If it melts quickly, there will be lots of running water. I did see swans fly over this afternoon.
I will be very ready for some above normal spring weather and I hope I don't have a reason to do a post on weather for quite a while.
