How Could I Have Ever Missed It?

Now most of my readers know that I am an avid cyclist. You know that at age 75 I still ride at least 1000 km (625 miles) per summer. I would ride more if the weather cooperated and if my schedule allowed. I have ridden since 1984 when they started putting in excellent cycling trails in my town. I've been at it ever since. I've ridden about 40000 km (25000 miles). some years I've ridden much more than my goal and some years I just reach my goal. the first few years I did not have my goal of 1000 km. I'm on my third bike and it's just about worn out. I replace bikes when safety becomes an issue.

I don't have recent cycling photos. These are from 2009.

Now I just recently heard of naked cycling day! I had never heard of it before. Apparently this has been going on since 2002.  Apparently many local groups organize a nude cycling day and away they go. Most naked cycling days are in the spring. I wonder why?

The other day 3000 nude cyclists in Philly road through a wedding party photo shoot! This couple will have something to remember about their wedding.

So since I keep up on cycling I can't understand why I missed these exciting cycling events.

Maybe I should organize one in my town for next spring!

    1. You know that this is tongue in cheek. Not only would I not ride nude, I wouldn't go to see nude cyclists.

  2. Naked cycling happens in Seattle every year at the Solstice parade. Most of them are covered on body paint, however.

  3. You look great on your bike Red. I heard about the naked bicycle race in Philly. Since I actually saw one in London back in June from our 5th floor hotel window, I have heard of others around the world, all bringing attention to worthy causes.

    1. Yes, I guess they put their publicity to good use.

  4. Well done Red. Many of the roads around me are hardly wide enough for the buses and the wind does not encourage cycling. Having said that cycling is very strong here. I cycled in New Zealand but I'm ashamed to say that my bikes rarely see the road here.

    1. Thanks. I find the wind difficult here and I also don't do well in heat.

  5. I am glad I missed that nude cycling. I saw some pictures here of it, it is a world wide phenomenon apparently. I don't think it feels pleasant to sit on a saddle while naked.....

    1. Well, I've never tried siting on a seat nude. I don't think it would be at all comfortable.

  6. You go for it! Not sure your micromanager will approve, however!

    1. You've certainly got the micro manager summed up but she doesn't have to worry. I wouldn't go see them and I wouldn't ride nude. So there!

  8. Naked cycling day?? Not sure I would want to see it or participate. I have enough trouble with my bubble seat not being soft enough!

  9. That is a lot of pedaling, Red. We had a nude cycling day here in Bellingham in July. I second Tex's dare! :-)

  15. I can't imagine naked cyclists. What a sight that must be. 25,000 miles! That is really something. No wonder you stay slim and trim.

  16. What the heck, go for it! Might as well have fun.

I think it's wonderful that you cycle so much. Great exercise and you see so many things when you ride. We didn't bike as much as last year because of all the things we've been dealing with/working on, but come next spring when the madness settles down, we'll get right back on track.

  18. Hi Red, Back in June they had a nude bike ride in Seattle. They call themselves Solstice Cyclists. They have a website at www.solsticecyclist.org I thought it was fun to look at the Frequently Asked Questions on their site. Someone asked, Is this legal? The answer is "As long as you wear a helmet, yes! By RCW 9A.88.010, public nudity is OK if it isn’t “likely to cause reasonable affront or alarm.” Would this be worth a trip out here? :-)

  19. Hmm, it sounds uncomfortable to me! I'll continue to ride fully clothed. :-). Wow, 25,000 miles is impressive! Maybe you can get a sponsor for your next bike with a record like that.

  20. You look very good on the bicycle, Red. Good for you. Art wanted to ride his bicycle here in Hawaii, but there are just too many hills in our area. Riding nude in Hawaii would not be feasible. You'd get sunburned all over.
