NEW LENSES

Last week I got new lenses for my glasses. What a difference!

In the early spring I began having difficulties with eye sight. Using glasses with binoculars was a problem. Light was always dull. Colors were very washed out. Driving was frustrating as it was difficult to read signs. I knew something was wrong but didn't know what.

When I put the glasses on it was if I was looking through a light film . It made things darker. Walking in the dark was a double problem.

I remembered the same thing happened before and it turned out to be the lens coating. I went to an optician and he declared my lens coating fine.

What to do? Things became worse. I did not use glasses for driving. I found an old pair of half eyes to use for the computer. Try washing dishes without glasses?

I dropped to the opticians again and a different person said the coating is definitely a problem.

So then lens shopping began. I wear trifocals and at first they told me they couldn't get them . Some people said trifocals are going out. Finally they found some trifocals. I've never used progressive lenses.  The lenses came in last week. What a difference! Things are bright again. Driving is easy again. I think the dishes are cleaner.

So life is good again. I'm not half as crabby as I was!

  1. I am so happy for you that you got that corrected! I guess that shows it is always worth getting a second opinion. I have worn progressive lenses for over 20 years now so I guess I'm used to them. I only had trouble with the first pair I had but once I adjusted to them it was fine.

    1. I started wearing trifocals before progressives were that common.

  2. Yay! Glad to hear that it was a problem that can be solved easily. I am one year into my new intraocular lenses after cataract surgery. I take for granted that I can see, but before I simply couldn't see very well. Congratulations on those new lenses. :-)

  5. Not half! I try to have an exam annually. My progressives are amazing. My husband has a progressive pair, and a pair for the computer and another pair just for reading! He's worth it!

    1. Here, seniors get yearly eye exams. My optometrist is a former student...cool. He also wears hearing aids.

    1. Yes, stuff falls off and other stuff stops working. You can fill in the blanks.

  10. I am having vision problems while driving, etc. I really need to make some time and get an appointment! My car is also reminding me to get its oil changed. Could this not all come at a less busy time of year?

  11. How strange that you got conflicting information on the cause. (Or maybe that's not strange at all, honestly, given how often it happens.) Glad you got the problem sorted out!

    1. I'm not sure what was with the first guy. I could see that the coating was bad. The coating crinkles.

  15. I'm glad you got that sorted out. I am a real bear (grizzly, even) when there is anything wrong with my glasses. When I started developing a cataract, my optician didn't even mention it. It took three return visits, the last one to his colleague, to identify that, yes, the cataract - although just developing - was indeed giving me blurry vision and eyestrain. I just got progressive lenses which I had to return because I can't stand having only a peephole through which to see. On top of that I have neck issues, which makes it difficult to move my head constantly to find that peephole, and a floater in my dominant eye which settles right at the centre of my visual field (again, the peephole area). So, no progressives for me. I've re-ordered my regular kind of lens, with the regular kind of coating, and I am much calmer now :D

    1. It's surprising what they can do with lenses but you need a good optometrist.

  18. Thank goodness the dishes are clean again! I've never had that happen with the coating on my glasses. Now I will know what's happening if it does.
