FATHER'S DAY

When I look back I see having a Dad for a very long time even though most of my life was apart from him because of my career.

So here is Dad at age 28 with his first child ...me!

Here I am with Dad close to the end of his life. He had been in a nursing home for about 5 years and at this time his quality of life was not good because of Parkinson's disease. He passed away in early 2008 at age 95. So at that time I had my Dad for about 68 years. Dad lived an interesting life and in so doing I also had an interesting life.

  1. Nice photos of your dad with you as a baby and then in his later years. My dad died in 2007, and I still and will always miss him.

  3. I think that's so true -- if your Dad (or Mom) lived an interesting life, then you're much more likely to have an interesting life yourself. Obviously, you had a good Dad.

  11. I find myself thinking back as to what was going on in my dad's last years. He stop taking his meds just because and he lost a lot of years because of it.

  12. How come your fist is clenched in that second picture Red? I guess you were mad because your dad had refused to give you your pocket money again. You always were a naughty lad!

  15. Ah, that last picture reminds me of the photos of my dad and I in his last years, also in a nursing home and in a wheelchair. You had a lot of years and memories with your father. I hope you had a good Father's Day, remembering your own father and also as a father.

  20. YP's comment made me look at your hand and I noticed that, in actual fact, you had your thumb in your pocket with your hand suspended from the pocket. I can remember a time when lots of people did that but I can't recall seeing it done for a long long time. Was there a reason for it I wonder or was it a fad?

A lovely tribute by the way.
