MELT DOWN

The micro manager loses things once in a while and she gets very upset. She has a humungous black purse which probably has more than 123 items in it. So what usually happens is that she puts something in the purse  when we are out shopping or doing business and then she can't find it. She gets very excited and thinks back to where she had the said item last. There's a lot of frantic digging in the black monster . Usually sooner or later she comes across the item she's looking for. I don't think she has actually lost anything but she spends a lot of time looking for things.

Now Friday , I had my opportunity for a melt down. I had to call at five different places to do business.

First, I had to call at a bank. Since I rarely enter this bank, as the micro manager does all banking, they asked me for identification. They wanted my driver's license. I'm very careful with that piece of identification. They took it and gave it back and I put it back in my wallet.

When I got to business number 4 , another bank, I was asked for identification and I couldn't find my license. I frantically went through my wallet again as it should have been obvious. No luck. By this time I was tearing everything apart.

Even though I knew I had put my license back in the first bank , I went back to the first bank. They had not found it.

Well go to the next business. By this time I had cooled down a bit and decided to become sane and look in my wallet again. I checked in the pocket where I keep my license. I could feel something different between two other pieces of paper. There was my plastic driver's license.

Now this was a very upsetting incident which doesn't usually happen to me. If it's a small item I don't worry..

So how about you. What do you fear losing most? What happens to you when you lose something?

  1. I can relate to carrying 123 things in a purse, tho I only carry 97 things. I would not want to lose my keys or my phone. That is good you did find your license.

    1. Keys are another biggie to lose. I've lost keys but always found them.

  2. I understand the purse situation. I think some items dissolve when I put them in my purse, or maybe they just disappear for a bit and then come back. I most fear losing important documents that would be hard to replace. I have discovered that the more nervous you are about whatever you lost, the less likely you are to find it until you calm down.

    1. Tension is the last thing you need when there's a loss. Unfortunately tension is going to be automatic. Thanks for visiting Hiawatha House.

  3. I can relate to never laying my hands on something important in my bag or in containers. I am usually looking for it when I'm tired and that doesn't help. The other night I was looking for one receipt which I was almost certain was in a small tub where I keep important papers yet to be filed or things I will need to look at soonish. I couldn't find it. I started tearing up other boxes and containers. Still no receipt. I went and forth to the original container where I thought it should be. I looked 3x and couldn't find it. Five hours later, guess where I found it? Yep. It was exactly where I though it was.

  4. I regularly "lose" things just the way you did but I am always terrified that the item is really and truly lost. II worry most about my debt card because I only have one account and one card so if that gets lost I effectively have no money.
i dont carry large purses because the possibility of losing things is so high and they get so heavy

    1. I would never admit to driving myself crazy but that's exactly what happens.

  6. Perhaps it is time to get a "man bag" Red. Then you will be able to carry 123 things around - just like Nurse Kline. I fear losing my marbles.

  8. Hello,

My hubby is usually the person loosing things, except he calls my small handbag a black hole. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!

  9. My purse, when I carry one, doesn’t hold nearly as many items. Perhaps you exaggerated a little, Red? But like you and your wife, I do fear losing anything, luckily it later turns out to have been just misplaced and the odd thing is that it’s always found in the last place I’ve looked. Recent misplaced item was a set of earphones.

    1. We get a little excited when something is lost and then we're not too rational.

  10. My bank and credit cards are something I wouldn't want to lose. But I also wouldn't want to lose any of my identification, especially my driver's license.

  11. My greatest fear is losing my mind. Anytime I lose a shopping list, which I do regularly, I fear it is the beginning of the former.

    1. Well, losing one's mind is a gradual process. If I really stop and think about it , I'm far from what I used to be.

  12. Once while shopping with a friend, I lost the keys to my car. She was driving and so I only noticed when it was time to be taken back to my car so I could drive home. We searched all of the places we had been but they were never found. I had to call my son and have him bring the spare set of keys so I could drive home! (and I was a good distance from home! So it all took several hours!) Since then I have always worried when I am out, "where are my keys?" It was a horrible day!

    1. Yes, when you never find something it's very upsetting. I can understand how it stays with you.

  13. Credit cards. I have lost them, but I have thought I had lost them many more times than I actually did. I hate that feeling.

  15. I fear losing my wallet, with two credit cards, my drivers license, and any cash I might have. I am very careful with it, but yes, losing or misplacing something is very stressful for me, too.

  16. Oh, we've all been through those "moments of panic" when we think we've lost something. Not a good feeling! I'm so glad your license turned up.

  17. I think I fear losing my little hand-held purse that contains all my plastic cards and IDs, and my keys. The credit/debit cards and IDs would be so time-consuming to replace, and I have all my keys and my work keys on one ring. I'm glad you found your driver's license - that's an important piece of plastic! When I think I've lost something at home, I start to clean up and that usually uncovers the missing something.

    1. Some people have many cards and it's difficult to manage them.

  18. Twice recently I've left my debit card at the drive in window at the drug store. It is the new procedure of no physical contact and I don't think to be sure I've picked up the card in the way they do it now. The first time the clerk called me and I went back. The second time I knew I did it as I pulled away from the window. I circled the store, got back in line, and retrieved it. There won't be a third time.

  19. New procedures are difficult or us to get used to.

  20. I was going to say that I fear losing my marbles more than anything else but YP beat me to it.

As it happens I am like you and am very methodical with where I keep things like my driver's licence. One day, however, when going into the Sports Centre I couldn't find my pass so the lady kindly issued me with another. It is exactly the same size as a credit card/driver's licence. When I went to put it in my wallet there was my old one. I'd forgotten that I'd transferred it from the pocket of the sports bag to a new home in my wallet. I did feel as though I'd lost my marbles too.

  21. Well, with all the self-isolation, my wallet hasn't been moved off my desk in several months. However ... where the blank-ety-blank are my glasses!?!

  22. I lost my keys once years ago. There was snow on the driveway and I dropped them. I couldn't believe I couldn't find them. I even shoveled the area that I dropped them in and still didn't find them. Someone suggested maybe a bird came by and grabbed them. Our house was surrounded by lots of trees. Ravens were always a frequent visitor so I guess they could have taken the keys.

  23. I get very upset when I misplace something...I am in the habit of double checking myself and my husband too! The last thing I lost was the checkbook at the Drivers License office last spring...luckily the girls kept it for me...I left it lay on the counter...what a idiot I felt like and had to wait the whole weekend to get it back.

  24. this was interesting read and i can relate so well

i am sorry for you bank card misplacement ,it happens and when it happens on times like these it hurts for while indeed

i have lost few purses when i was young but more absent mind then i am now ,but worst was leaving keys inside and locking up the door :(
i am grateful that i am learning how to stay attentive and forget or loose less

Not original with me, but it just cried out to be said.

  26. Whew! All is well that ends well. Recently I lost our Panera Bread gift card. We thought back to the last time we saw it. Which led me to the bag where I deduced it must be, and there it was!

  27. I don't lose things (yet), but if I'm in a line up and I need something like a points card, I'll only give myself five seconds to find it in my back pack, otherwise say I must have left it at home.

  28. That is so frustrating. I lose a lot of things, my phone, my wallet, my sun glasses, my reading glasses. My reading glasses are usually on the top of my head, and I find them by finding another pair of sunglasses which eventually get put on the top of my head also, where they meet the other pair of sunglasses I was looking for originally. Didn't they write comedy skits about this stuff? :)
