A DISGUSTING COMMENT

One of the best parts of blogging are the comments. I like receiving comments where I learn something, have to rethink my post or change my position. I also like making comments. It's a conversation in blogging.

However, last week I received a comment from Mr or Mrs Anonymous and it was much out of line. I've seen these comments before. I know what kind of deluded people make them.

All of you have seen the comment about Baby Boomers and how awful they are that they are using everything up in a very selfish way and leaving nothing for the coming generations except debt. Baby boomers should just get out of the way (die) and quit using up resources and leaving huge debts. This person cannot see clearly because of their own selfishness. It was somewhat alarming to see a comment with such utter lack of reality.

I would like to be able to tell this person that if that's the way they feel don't drive on roads or bridges that baby boomers have built. Don't drink the water or dispose of your sewage using baby boomer facilities. Just don't use any of the public infrastructure that baby boomers have built . The infrastructure may not be completely paid for but there's nothing wrong with future generations paying for a share for their usage. What do they think that everything should be built and that they can use it for nothing?

Finally, I'm not a baby boomer. I'm a prewar baby. I know that people had to pay for a war so that we might be free. It took many years to pay for the war.

I wonder what other bizarre ideas Mr or Mrs Anonymous could come up with?

  2. Sounds like a troll. These people sit in front of their computers and just write stupid things to annoy others. What a sad life they must have.

  3. I didn't catch that particular comment on your blog but I have seen similar ones on other blogs. Your response is perfect. Each generation throughout time owes much to the previous generation. I am grateful for my parent's generation just as they were for their parents.

  4. I have seen that comment, and it did startle me too. I didn't realize it was being widely shared. That makes it just cheap and stupid.

  6. Well I didn't see the original comment but it sounds as though it was written from a position of ignorance. What the hell is a "baby boomer" anyway? Perhaps Ignoramus would identify me as one - having been born in 1953. However, the problem is that I only allow myself three labels at a time and they are currently Yorkshire Pudding, Yorkshireman and Hull City Supporter. There is no room for "baby boomer" and besides I would have no idea how to go about "booming" a baby. Do you have to stick them down the barrel of a cannon?

  8. I've gotten that one lately, too. And the one about the India escorts turns up almost daily. I just delete them and also wonder why they are doing it. I allow anonymous comments too, and mostly they are from nice people.

  10. Hi Red,
Seems some people are just angry. I've been angry, I can't judge. But I can tell you one thing, they came to the wrong blog. I love what you do and I have taken to reading these blogs other than the news headlines. I'm a lot happier that way.
Thanks for all of your hard work. I know I'm not the only one out here who enjoys your work.
Have a great day...and thanks Red, keep up the great work.

  11. Someone else mentioned receiving that comment -- I can't remember who. I think, as Martha said, it's just some troll trying to stir things up. It may not even be a real person! Just a "spam bot"!

  12. It's not like baby boomers had any say in when they were born, ha ha

I think it's a troll comment or like Steve says, a spam bot. I just delete those.

  13. I haven't seen that comment, but I remember the odd one from some misogynist who despised American women and spammed blogs with the same paragraph comment trying to get traffic to his site.

  14. I wonder what generation they identify with? I get a regular one from Africa to try out his escort service and spam it with hopes it will diminish

  18. Red, I agree with Bill’s comment to just mark such comments as spam and delete them. And like Others have said here, it’s not worth giving such comments any thought because those who have left them obviously have nothing intelligent to say. Hiding behind a tag of Anonymous shows that as well. Time to move on.

  19. I really don't understand the mindset behind mean anonymous comments or spam bots or robocalls. Some people just have too much time on their hands and a computer at their fingertips.

  21. Hi Red, I’ve been getting some of these unwanted comments myself. Nice to see you address it and tell it like it is. I’m writing off those unwanted comments as inevitable grumbling from mentally disturbed individuals. As long as we are talking about comments, let me add this … When I sort of restarted active blogging with John’s Island back on March 1st I thought I would try to accomplish one of your trademarks … the reply to the comment. I admire you for doing this. However, I just couldn’t seem to keep up with it. You usually do your replies a day after you publish the post. I found myself getting busy with other things and before I knew it two or three days had gone by and it seemed too late to do replies. Anyway, I’m back to my old routine now … I’m enjoying reading the comments but I’m not going to give replies unless a specific question is asked. Sometimes, folks leave me a comment and I try to click back to their blog but can’t get there. That is annoying. Bottom line, I enjoy Hiawatha House and hope you’ll keep going just like you have been for a long, long time. Don’t let those nasty comments bother you! And have a happy day! :-)

  24. I'm fortunate in having relatively few unpleasant comments despite not having comment moderation. However, the one you've mentioned does indicate that there are people out there with such thoughts. It's just one more addition to the disappointment I feel at so many sections of humanity.

  25. I received that comment, too, as did a number of those on my blogroll. I thing it may well be a troll or bot — maybe the Russians did it! :-). The latest now is from India seeking free advertising for their business.
