Ready to go. |
We have from 10 - 20 skaters of various ages and abilities. Our oldest skater is 89.
Still a strong sporty skater at 89. |
So I will get busy with looking after my yard and garden to keep me fit and out of mischief.

Gee Red, we do the same thing here in our little town, cept we only have approx 3-6 skaters and most of the time there is just me and two nice gents, so we get the ice all to ourselves. There is the odd time I am the only skater, so I take my wee cairn and her wee basketball and she chases it all over the ice, trying to catch me and sliding all over the place. Great exercise for us both in the winter. Our rink closes mid march and starts in October. Nice to know you enjoy this sport as much as I do. Nice post and great photos.
ReplyDeleteNow do you play music? We have music and it's old time(not my style ) but that's what the skaters like.
DeleteIt's kind of a shame that not more people skate. Red Deer is close to 100000 people so we should have more skaters.
I've never even strapped on a pair of skates. It looks like I'm really missing out.
ReplyDeleteYes and no! You have a number of things I've never tried so we're even.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think I'm getting too old to keep on keeping on....I'll thing of this and say...I can do it!!!

It's that way with many things. We just have to get out there and do it. Sometimes that's easier said than done because of a busy life.
DeleteI was glad to see the skating rink was indoors. At first I thought of a lake frozen over for 9 months. You know all us Southerners think you guys are in the tundra.
ReplyDeleteGreat exercise. So much fun you don't even know it. But I've never done it. There is an ice rink in Dallas and my kids have skated there.
And northerners have inaccurate views of the south. So we're even. The exercise is great but the supportive group is the best part.
DeleteI tried ice skating once, as a child. I loved it but we don't have much opportunity for ice-rinks here. I think there may be one in our town, geared mainly for sports...good way to keep fit though!
ReplyDeleteAnd there are many southern things that I haven't tried and don't even know about. We each have excellent activities to keep us occupied.
DeleteYou know how much I love active seniors getting out and playing together, Red. Hope you will all get together again next year! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, if you were here you'd be one of the prominent members of the skaters. We will skate next year . The ice is booked.
DeleteWhat a great activity! I am a weak skater and have been thinking for a long time that I should just go take some lessons. I love seeing active seniors!!! Skating at 89 is amazing. One of the most flexible people in my yoga class is 75. She puts the rest of us to shame.
ReplyDeleteThere are many skating lesson opportunities for kids but not for adults. We have members who are good at helping skaters who need to learn something.
ReplyDeleteOur 89 year old skater puts me to shame. When he turns on the jets, I'm left behind.
Must admit, haven't been skating in years. OUghtta sell my skates! Too much outdoor work anyway. Just ordered 8 cu. yards of dirt! sigh
ReplyDeleteThere's more than skating to keep you occupied. There are many other groups besides skaters that are very supportive.
