I don't know about you but this summer is starting to seem like it's been terribly long. Why? They haven't changed the number of days. So I started to look for some reasons why the summer seems so long. Usually summers are too short.
We've had some odd weather here. We had a cold spring with lots of cloud and wind. Our summer has been a mixture of hot and really hot. Along with the heat we've had rain and thunder showers.
Now I like a good old 20 C (70 F) summer...something that is reliable. None of all this variety. With a good steady temperature you can get into the flow of things with work and play.
But what I really think has made this summer seem long is some out of the ordinary weather in late winter early spring. Some of the blogs I follow were reporting temperatures which were far from the ordinary. The hot spell people had was very early in spring. People were not only showing plants growing but blooming. People were remarking about the unusual weather. Now there was a cool spell after this early warm weather but it didn't slow things down..
I think the early warm weather that other bloggers reported in the east got me thinking about summer much before summer arrived here. I had it in my head that summer was here but it was not.
So sorry folks, I'm blaming you for me thinking that summer is really dragging by.
I know how I'll get even. I'll start talking about winter. I hope it comes early so that I can really have some effect.
But first , let's all enjoy what's left of summer.
I am definetly ready for fall. Our summer started early and has been hot and dry. It is starting to improve this week. We had rain and 70's today. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm really afraid of is that we could get a warm fall and mild winter.
Deletesummer seems to have just started for me..but then...I am sooooo ready for school to start!
ReplyDeleteYes, I guess you might like your peace and quiet back.
DeleteI've found it way too hot this summer. :( I like being outside, but not when it's 35C and humid. I know exactly how you're feeling, Our spring was so hot too...
ReplyDeleteYes I remember the hot spring stuff and it got summer in my head.
DeleteWell - here this August has been (so far) the strangest of all. Usually the coldest and windiest. Now the 14th. and only one day of wind, and it is still supposedly winter. Spring starts here on the 1st September.
ReplyDeleteHowever, further south Canberra etc. it is cold still - minus 1 celsius this morning, but the TV news had it as -6 celsius (Who do you believe?)! Here a max. of 25 celsius!!!
Now on to matters far more importantance. This warm Canadian winter will be a great asset to our new enterprise. Rabbit breeding for exports to the East. I trust with this warm weather you have prepared the winter hatch??? Warmth will be required, so please set up warming processes.
His Excellency, the PRC Minister of Food Imports, is still pondering my proposal.
Yours with most cordial greetings
Colin (Brisbane. Australia)
CEO of the "H/K/L" enterprises.
I'M brushing up on my Mandarin . I think the Chinese have more money than Colin so this might be a go!!!!
Deleteyou made me laugh! yes, please start talking about winter! it was 103F here, today!
ReplyDeleteNow we should compare notes on our winter and yours?
DeleteWhen I was a kid it seemed like summer was an endless odyssey of hot ads and adventure.now summer seems to go by in a blin.
ReplyDeleteYes summer was full of nothing but sunny days.
DeleteWell here Down Under we are counting the days till Spring - which begins on 1 September. But as our winter daytime averages are in the low 20C's, I guess you wouldn't notice much difference with your summer. You would definitely not like our summer, I guess. But I don't mind 30C day after day. That's what the pool is for!
ReplyDeleteIt's all what you get used to. For each we have to learn how to live with it.
DeleteYou made me smile...I don't want to think about winter ever...I am a summertime gal! But, I know winter is necessary...at least that is what I have heard! We need it to kill off the bugs, disease, etc. Wonder what people in the tropics do then, with no winter ever? It has been a pretty beastly hot summer - hope our winter is not equally unpleasant!
ReplyDeleteYou make an interesting point of what winter does . So winter here is very necessary for the cycles life has here . I the tropics they have their own cycle.
DeleteI had to put a jacket on at sunrise a few mornings but it is back to AC and tough heat again.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will soon be back to cool mornings. Here we very seldom have warm nights. This summer it's been different. Usually our nights cool to 10 C (50 F)
DeleteMorning Red - I agree with you. Our summer started in March with soaring temps in the 90's +++ and really never got colder, as we moved right into spring with hotter than usual spring weather. I agree with the 70 temps for summer around here, usual thing in past years, but this year all blown outta whack with humid, really humid weather and still is. Yah, I am thinking that I want September to come with cool mornings n nights and I need to wear a sweater or jacket whilst walking the dog. Too much hot for me, and yet although I enjoy the 70's, the high 90's n humidity are enough to make me yearn to put my skates on when the pond freezes over or the local rink, whichever comes first. Bottom line, summer here has lasted way too long and I am ready to move on - I might regret having said that. Have a great day :)
ReplyDeleteI think our patience wears thin on both ends of the scale. That's why we like good old 70 F or 20 C.
Delete90s and 100s got to me after a while and I had to post a "schnauzer in snow" picture a couple of weeks ago just to cool off my brain. Not that winter is my favorite season, but the pictures look so cool and nice when I go back in to my photo archives on an August day.
ReplyDeleteYour black Schnauser in the snow would make a rather striking photo. Yes things like that do help to cool us off.
DeleteRed for me this summer has gone by way too fast, or is going by way too fast. And I got to miss a large portion of winter. When the cold season hits us I don't know how I'm going to adapt to this, I haven't been in cold, really cold, weather since Jan. 21st when I boarded the plane to Australia. I did however experience fall in Australia, but I think the coldest it got was about 7c, I can live with that no problem, it's this -30 crap I detest!
ReplyDeleteI'm in no rush for summer to end, I'd love for it to be summer all year long but while the renos are being done I'd just get the AC installed for those unbearably hot days.
Cheers.
You must be a little mixed up with what you've gone through this year. do we get jet lag with seasons?
DeleteHi Red,
ReplyDeleteMy summer has gotten away from me. The past few days have been 70 and balmy. I want to enjoy these last weeks before fall.
Don't start winter too soon. :)
Hi Red, I think Fall is starting to arrive here..the nights have turned real cool..50 degrees F or less..lets do fall first..winter is so dreadfully long:(
ReplyDeleteFor me I hate winter, I don't even like to think about winter. Now for my husband...he LOVES winter, he really doesn't like the H.E.A.T. of summer so we blend I suppose. I really hope we have a warm September, I'm not ready for harvest and all the work of October, but now Terry...he is ready.

Ha.. I don't mind taking the blame for that one. I've noticed that this summer feels lengthier than usual also.. for the same reason. Only difference is that I LOVE the heat.
