The fifth ghost done was to keep the story of Red Deer's most famous pig alive. Francis had been delivered to the local abattoir and escaped. He was on the loose for several weeks and was very difficult to catch. It was winter so he could be tracked. He was bated with food but would not take the bait. Finally they say him and used a tranquilizer dart. A local farmer took Francis, but Francis died a few days later because the tranquilizer dart had injured internal organs. So the story of Francis was gripping but ended sadly. So this ghost honors poor old Francis.
Wasn't expecting the sad ending. Guess someone didn't know exactly how to use a tranquilizer gun. I like Stephen's comment - immortalized is something I can smile about.
Hilary - Bronzed Bacon - I like that. Poor Francis very well knew where he was headed and figured he had that last one chance to freedom - just didn't work - Bronzed for Bravery- Yes :)
Poor Francis, but he did end up immortalized in bronze which is something very few pigs can say.
ReplyDeleteThe three little pigs come to mind!!!!
DeleteAwww... Poor Francis. At least he had a taste of freedom.
ReplyDeleteHe was a very spunky porker.
Deleteawww! that's a sad one!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think everybody was hoping Francis would get away. He was named Francis after all this happened.

Apparently we aren't told that there are deaths caused by tranquilizer guns.
DeleteI agree with Stephen. There's something to be said for being immortalized!
ReplyDeleteOkay, how about Porky Pig?
DeleteHe's a handsome pig.
ReplyDeleteFrancis was in pretty rough shape after he was caught.
DeleteA sad story about a brave pig, to try avoid his destiny. Nice they made a statue for him.
ReplyDeleteThis story really got people involved.
DeleteBronzed bacon..
ReplyDeleteHey, I like it!

It was sad that he avoided the slaughter house and then died anyway.

Some stories have sad endings.
DeleteToo bad. Our neighbors all raise pigs but they are confined and sequestered to prevent disease. You never see them and they never see outside....:(
ReplyDeleteThe way they raise animals today is rather sad. The meat doesn't taste the same either.
DeleteThat is a sad story..poor Francis:(
