I skate every Tuesday from Sept. to April. It's great exercise and fun. The skaters are a very friendly group to belong to.
First, you have to get to the arena. Today was hot, dry and windy! Not the kind of day you would think about skating. |
Meet your friends |
The ice surface all ready for us. |
And away we go! |
Fancy pair! |
One of the best parts of skating...coffee! |
What fun! And what a great way to exercise and socialize...all at the same time.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun and you get to maintain a skill.
DeleteOh no, skating and I would not get along! I crashed and burned really bad roller skating. I think my tail bone is still broke!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun to watch though!
Well, my skating isn't pretty. We have one woman (62 yrs old) and she can do quite a few figures.
DeleteWhat a beautiful ice arena. Do you have a local hockey team?
ReplyDeleteThis is our oldest arena. We keep it in good repair. Our junior team is the Rebels. They play in a major stadium that us poor folks can't get into.
DeleteIce skating and coffee. They are the perfect pairing. I love ice coffee. ;)
ReplyDeleteAh ha! I like the smooth move to iced coffee!
DeleteHow time flies. Never mind it will soon be spring.
ReplyDeleteObviously you're not a skater!
DeleteOh, this reminds me of the days skating in Central Park, in Manhattan. My mom loved ice skating and so did my brother, and they would drag me. I was terrified, I would move around only holding onto the railing.
ReplyDeleteNow skating in Central Park would be really cool.
DeleteI am so envious - I love ice skating. I am not very good at it, (growing up in a very warm climate) but I love the freedom and joy of gliding along.
ReplyDeleteYou are so blessed to have such a beautiful rink.
I have roller-bladed, but find it far more difficult. Enjoy your season of skating.
I'm not a graceful smooth skater but I get enough pleasure that I keep at it.
DeleteThis is our oldest rink! We do keep it in excellent repair.
Oh, this is so great you do skate. I stopped a few years ago, because I got to frightened to fall. But I was never a good skater so it doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteI wear a helmut all the time. I wish everybody would wear a helmut. I've never hit my head and I hope I never do.
DeleteOh Red, our arena won't be open for another month - usually around mid October, so I envy you on skates already. Saw some good ole hockey skates in the photos and I agree - the best part is greeting friends that you may not have seen all summer and going for coffee/hot chocolate after at "TIM's" - have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThis ice has been in since the end of July. Hockey has been in full swing as far as practice is concerned. Sorry but we meet in the Dairy Queen.
DeleteOh Red I want to grow up to be just like you:) Your zest for life and activity inspire all who are lucky enough to read your blog. B
ReplyDeleteWell, thank you. Trust me, I have slowed down.
DeleteI sure wish I had a skating arena like that, Red. I'd be using it, too. A cool group of people to have fun with, it seems. :-)
ReplyDeleteI think we have the same friendship skating as you have with your hiking group.
Deletesounds like a lot of fun and great exercise! i wish i was that coordinated. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not that coordinated. I skate better now than anytime in my life. I didn't skate much as a kid.
DeleteI'm with TexWis - I'm not coordinated either. As a kid, when I'd try to skate, whether it be roller or ice skates, I spent most of my time on my posterior or the back of my head!. Just couldn't get the knack of it. Good for you for being so brave!
ReplyDeleteWell, bend your knees a bit and you're off!
DeleteI imagine skating is good exercise, and a great way to hang with your friends.
ReplyDeleteVery good exercise. It seems that a group with a common interest has other things they can share.
DeleteThat is great fun Red ! Way to go .
ReplyDeleteYes and a good cup of coffee shared with friends is always a plus.
My parents, my brothers, almost everyone in St. Paul including the creator of Charley Brown loved skating and hockey. Except me whose weak ankles made me dislike the activity. So naturally I gravitated to basketball in the winter...:)
ReplyDeleteI know you enjoy that activity! Have fun Red! :)
