That damn ipad doesn't like me!
That damn ipad is smarter than I am!
You knew there'd be a post like this.
When you connect an ipad to your computer, the two have to have many chats with each other. They have to line many things up so that they agree and can work with each other. Most of this goes very smoothly. In fact, all you have to do is tell the computers to do things and it gets done. You just have to sit there and read what happens.
I had been told that all I had to do at home is connect the ipad to my computer and I would gain access to the Internet. So the ipad was plugged in and I went merrily on my way to email. Write an email, press send and it's gone. My daughter usually replies right away. Nothing. Then I tried Safari and I got a message saying the ipad was not on the Internet!
After bumbling around a message came up to load some updated software. It would take three hours! When it was finished there was a message that an error had occurred. Also my shiny new ipad was seized up! There was a message telling me six things to try to get the ipad back. I wasn't going to try any of them. I would call for my friend. My friend is away.
A few days later I thought I'll look at this again. A message appeared that said restore. I said aha. I can do this. So 10 minutes later my ipad was back. I learned a few things with that experience.
Now back to the Internet. I guess some of the things I listened to got mangled. Some things people were telling me were wrong.
I'm not on the Internet with my ipad, but I'm still working on it.
The damn thing is so smart I'm sure it will get me there.
When my first computer began regularly beating me in chess, I knew the game was over. The machines were winning. Now I am forced to admit my pickup truck is way smarter than me as well. Ridiculous......
ReplyDeleteYes, it's ridiculous. At one time there was a smart assed kid or two who was smarter and that was bad enough.
DeleteGood morning Red,
ReplyDeleteIt really is a pain when computers don't want to play ball isn't it. System restore has saved my bacon many a time. I hope you manage to get your Ipad synced successfully. Take care
I will get there. I have to get the router set up at the house .
DeleteI don't have an iPad, so i can be of no help. I do know that my iPhone and my Windows PC did not like each other when they first met.
ReplyDeleteThese things are quite compatible now. I'm not used to the Apple system.
DeleteIpads are fun and smart. Do you have wireless internet? If so you go to settings and where it says wifi and you find your internet service and touch to join. That is how you do in it NC I hope that this helps.
ReplyDeleteThe same thing happens here. I just didn't know I had to have a router.
DeleteI have a Nook and it has very limited conversations with the Internet, but I will probably take it on my travels as it is much smaller than my PC!
ReplyDeleteI certainly like the mobility of the thing. it feels nice to use.
DeleteBelieve it or not, I still don't have an iPad. I need to join the rest of the 21st century :)
ReplyDeleteBut I don't have a cell phone!
DeleteComputers: don't you just love 'em (or hate them - or both and at the same time).
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling.
DeleteI see you are learning new things with ups and downs, keep going!
ReplyDeleteLearning new things is what keeps us seniors in the game.
DeleteApple and Microsoft just do not like each other and most of the time are incompatible, however, if you have an apple pc, then you should have no problem. The newer iphones and ipads are coming out with microsoft on them, so that solves a problem - soon it will be in iphone 6, bu not sure on the ipad. I had no problem hooking my ipad up to apple pc and going on internet - I ran into problems on the hp pc, so buck up there Sir Red and do you have the problem because your pc isn't compatible with apple? Probably - Maybe. Your friend will solve the dilemma , however; in the meantime you reset and now all is working. Be interesting to hear what your friend does. Cheers
ReplyDeleteYou're right Apple and windows talk to each other very well once you get going.
DeleteOh Red I have a android and it is smarter than I am too:):) B
ReplyDeleteWell, in my case you don't have to be too smart to be smarter than me.
DeleteI have wi-fi on my iPad, so when I'm in range of the internet, I'm connected. When I'm out of range, no such luck. I think you must be missing your computer friend very much! Glad to know you did get restored to normal, even without him! Good for you, Red! :-)
ReplyDeleteI will operate the same as you. I won't get wi fi at the house.
DeleteAhh technology always there to make our life easier.
ReplyDeleteThat's what they tell us.
Deletedon't you wish you could just point to the wireless modem and say 'fetch'? :)
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if it was as obedient as man's best friend.
DeleteAin't technology grand! Patience and it will all work out eventually:)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
DeleteI know you will, you are a wise man! We're Apple all the way around here.
DeleteI have an I-Pad and it's connected to my main computer through a router. I'm not sure what this is but my son said it was necessary. I haven't had nay problems.
ReplyDeleteI found out that the router is what I'm missing .
DeleteYou have my sympathy, I had similar problems when I got my tablet. I've now given up on trying to figure out its remaining mysteries. If I needed them I would have persevered, wouldn't I?
ReplyDeleteWe only have to know what we need.
DeleteI'm totally oblivious about these things, so you're much further ahead of me!
ReplyDeleteYou must have some trusty kid to explain things for you.
DeleteYup you need a router and then you'll be good to go.
ReplyDeleteGood grief! I still don't understand everything about my cell phone and it's one of the older ones. Must be my age. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh boy - I'm lucky to have a tech savvy husband who takes care of all my computer/iPad woes. My iPad is my mostest favoritest toy of all (I know - not words, but I like it that much!) I wish you luck getting there!
ReplyDeleteiPad doesn't always make it easy for people! I help my mother-in-law with hers a lot. :) You'll get there!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of hooking an ipad to a computer. Mine uses wi-fi to connect to the internet, but not to my main computer at all. I guess you have a hardwired connection to the net? I love my ipad, so much easier to pack it instead of my old laptop when I go on trips. I hope you get it all figured out soon!
