What am I going to do now? Quit? Never! I will continue riding until the weather shuts me down. I hope to ride at least another 100 km. One year I even made one ride in early December.
Making my goal this year was a bit of a challenge. We had a lot of cold and wet weather. You always think it will get better so you wait . I got very little distance ridden in April, May, June and July. We had a perfect August so I rode about 500 km . I had a problem with a leg muscle so for a while riding was a challenge.
This old bike has rolled 9000 km (5625 mi) |
So I'll ride until snow, ice and low temperatures stop me. Then I will think about riding next year.
You and that bike have been through and seen a lot together. It must seem like an old friend to you.
ReplyDeleteIt's a friend I'm going to have to part with as I like a bike that is in good running order.
DeleteGood for you, you could have almost rode to visit me in Minnesota! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh I think Minnesota would be much more than 625 miles. It's over 1000 miles from my place to Winnipeg.
Deletecongratulations! you're a die-hard biker!
ReplyDeleteIt's a competitive thing.
DeleteExcellent, Red! I'm very impressed.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's not really that hard to do. It takes 50-60 hours.
DeleteThat is amazing! Good for you. I rediscovered cycling this summer and I love it! I will also ride until the weather forces me to stop. And get right back to riding in early spring.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of excellent trails here so it makes biking fun.
DeleteWow! Congratulations! That's fabulous! My husband had high hopes to continue his biking when we moved to Hawaii, but there are too many steep hills where we live. I can see how you stay so fit.
ReplyDeleteThanks. I thought Art would ride up to the top of the mountain and crater like nothing. What a thrill coming down!
DeleteThat is very impressive, Red. My exercise of choice is walking, so my miles don't add up so fast.
ReplyDeleteWalking is the best exercise there is. Don't worry about distances.
DeleteYou just keep peddling Red - you almost made it to my house, but you still got some time before winter. Congratulations to you and trusty bike :)
ReplyDeleteHey, it's over 1000 miles to Winnipeg from my place. That's not even a start to your place.
DeleteI had one speedometer that only went to 10,000 and then quit on me. A nice goal, I was riding until December last year.
ReplyDeleteI'm on my second speedometer. I've ridden close to 30000 kms since 1985.
DeleteRed maybe you have to realize you may be not a fixer upper guy but your a older guy who has allot of zest in what you like doing. Riding your bike miles. Do what your heart tells you as it is what your passion is. Good for you.I applaud you. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteLike Tex says. That is you. A die-hard biker. Till the snow comes. I will know where you are. Hurrah!
I cannot even ride a bike.
The thing about cycling is that it's not a complete work out. Cycling is really risky at my age. A fall would be disaster.
DeleteWow! Good for you! I am impressed!!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteInspiration to us all. I need to remind myself that fall is one of the best times to ride.
ReplyDeleteWe have many great trails so it makes riding easy.
DeleteI exercised with my Uncle one year and he was and he rode a bike everyday. I told him I wanted to try riding a short ride with him one day. I made it 8 miles but I never rode again. It was to nerve wracking to me.
ReplyDeleteNever give up!!!
DeleteMake sure you ride safely. Nothing stops a good exercise program than a crash or pulled muscle. You have good determination. What is your plan for winter?
ReplyDeleteYou're right about safety. A fall at my age could be serious. I had a serious tumble in 2007
DeleteI am happy to have another exercise buff amongst my followers. Congratulations on meeting that 1000-km goal in a year of not so great weather. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Once winter comes it's walking!
DeleteYou are fitter than I am.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the next thousand.
Thanks. Cycling is not complete work out.
DeleteCongratulations Red! I rode to school and college and for the first two years after starting work for nearly 13 years for forty minutes every day. Sure a great way to stay fit and in shape :) Miss riding my bike. No opportunity where I live.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I wish more people here used a bicycle for getting around.
DeleteAmazing how much you cycle. For the dutch a bicycle is mostly a regular way of transport. So most people cycle every day, but not that much of kilometres you do I suppose. We sometimes make a tour, but mostly we cycle around in the neigbourhood for shopping, or to the market or visiting friends etc.
ReplyDeleteI think many Dutch would easily do this distance in a year. We need more security here to leave bikes at shopping centers.
DeleteThat is a great goal. I try to walk daily, but maybe I should start measuring how far I walk and set goals.
ReplyDeleteSomething to think about.
Rick, your latest follower.
Thanks. Goals do help. Thanks for visiting Hiawatha House.
DeleteWow! That's a lot of miles!
ReplyDeleteAs Confucius says, a man who ride bike pedal his a$$ all over town! Haha! Just had to throw that in there...
Cheri
Thanks! Good joke!!!
DeleteExcellent, Red! You set a goal and made it. And such a healthy goal. I'm glad you enjoy biking and don't plan to quit. I didn't go biking at all this past summer, and it sure was my loss.
ReplyDeleteYou are inspiring! I wrecked my achiliies overdoing it on the bike and haven't been back on it since. It's been 2 years. sigh. Maybe I should!
ReplyDeleteAlthough, with the size of my butt, maybe it's not so pretty a sight!
I rarely ride my real bike in the Hebrides but in the days when I used to ride in NZ it would be a standard 26k before breakfast. I miss that.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Red! Your perseverance is inspiring. :)
