Now the most satisfying part of my examination is that my optometrist is a former student. Dr Dean was a great kid in middle school. He excelled at sports and a little bit of competitiveness didn't hurt matters. He enjoyed sports and school. He was all round nice to have in the school.
When kids leave Middle School and go to high school it seems like they disappear. Some we meet later on and many we don't see again. So Dr Dean was away to get his optometry degree. He came back and set up a practice. As I had an optometrist I did not go to Dr Dean until I parted company with my old optometrist.
I've been happy with Dr Dean. He has a quiet calm but firm manner. He's in control. Of course , we have a great visit during the examination. He's genuinely interested as he wants to know about the person.
So once again there is no problem with my eyes. I keep the same prescription, but I should wear sunglasses.

It's great when you feel confident about your doctor. The eyes are so very important.

DeleteSun glasses are fine until you go in a shop and can't work out why it is so dark.

DeleteI think one of the best rewards a teacher can experience is to have one of his/her former students set up a practice like this and you get to be a patient. How great that must feel for you to be cared for by a former student. Cool glasses indeed Sir Red.

DeleteI wear transition lenses that darken in the sunlight. I love them because I don't have to remember to put on sunglasses, they are just built right in. It's so neat that you've known your optometrist since he was just a kid! :-)

DeleteI wear sunglasses when ever the sun is out, otherwise I squint and get a headache. I didn't wear sunglasses until after my cataract surgery. You get good eye care up there and what fun to have a former student as a Doctor:)

DeletePrevention is certainly better than a cure. Good job you were nice to Dr Dean when he was in middle school Red. If you had been one of those fierce, scary teachers Dr Dean could easily pay you back with some pain. "Now just relax Mr Red while I stick this needle in your eyeball!"
ReplyDeleteYou didn't have to worry about Dean. He was an asset in a class. I think we find most kids have a much different attitude when they become adults.

DeleteWell, that's cool. I have had former students work on my car and x-ray my mouth ( dental hygienist), but no doctors that I know of.
ReplyDeleteAh, nylon supras. They are so light and give good vision - so long as you don't drop them. I've worn them most of the time since I was a kid.

I did not get a good report last Spring.
I have Macular Degeneration is a growing problem as you get older. I was the one that got it. Not all get it.
I have a lot of blur in one eye. Have had to give up doing my scrapbook albums I had made. Too much strain in a 20 minute span and eye pain. I have a Specialist now.
If it gets worse as they have given me the warning. Then have to go to Hospital. Mine is like Attached Ritna which my hubby had and had the elastic band operation to go around the eye to help. He had to go in fast when you start seeing a curtain come down over eye sight. If you don't. he could of gone blind instantly. So that is what I have been warned also or your eye can bleed.
Then injections in the eye ball if I bleed. They do freeze the eye.
So very happy for you Red all is good with you.

Your glasses look very nice Red. How nice that you have confidence in Dr. Dean. I am glad he is interested in the person he sees. He sounds like a good guy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to meet former students. This is a common experience for me & my spouse. Nearby Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minn. provides many such opportunities...:)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a great visit. Every time I go I dread that I will need a new prescription but so far so good..just having problems with reading..so I use cheaters and that helps a bunch. (I can't wear bifocals because I trip over my own two feet...HA!) How nice to see your old students and see what life has made of them. I enjoy that also, and have had several who are now in college, and a few that life was not very nice to. That part is always sad for me.

It happens to me a lot, too, that a former student has a career where I get to see them in action. A favorite student, but my least favorite place to encounter her, is in store every time I weigh in at the clinic! I always imagine her telling her whole former class, I know how much Mrs $&@ weighs!
